Default Best Carp Book - Transferred

Whats the most informative carp book youve ever read, that you think taught you the most in your fishing ?
For me it has to be Strategic carp fishing By Simon Crow and Rob Hughes. It opened my eyes to so many factors affecting my result.
Months after putting into practice the many things i learnt from that book, i looked back at my results with shocking results.
Id gone from being a noddy carp angler into a thinking angler, with thoughts, ideas and skills to refine, instead of following the crowd

Well got to agree with Phil there...'Strategic Carp Fishing' is a well written book, although I have learn't a lot about bait from other books such as 'Tiger Bay' and Hutchies 'The Carp strikes back'. Tim Paisleys 'To catch a carp' is also a good read and very informative.

yes i agree there with the books ive read there are either covering the very basics or stories of captures which is fine, statigic carp is very technical and you really cant help learning from it.

Carp the Quest for the Queen
Is up there with the best I know its going back a few years 1987 I got it but it taught me a lot about rigs and baits and winter fishing which at the time was not widely practiced at all.
And the different types of water from estate lakes to cassein
A cracking read even now

Yes an excellent book had it on loan many times from the library way back. I may try and get it out again now that you have reminded me of it

Carp Fever is the book that I gleaned most tips and tricks from. I remember taking it everywhere with me, and I mean everywhere
I lost my first copy and recently aquired another from ebay. Its still a terrific read and it all still applys today.
Nowadays however I prefer the less 'matter of fact' reads, you know the type, Terry Hearns book and Dave Lanes for example. Both entertained me beyond belief and are both frequent visitors into the 'little room' with me. Having said that about these type of books the great 'Redmire Pool' and Chris Balls book 'The King Carp Waters' still keep me enthralled more than is healthy I think.
Damn it!! I just love 'em all

The carp strikes back by Rod Hutchinson was awsome when it came out, i must have read over 50 times and it actually does make you LOL, obviously dated now but a top read. Since then I think ive read most books published. The best is without doubt In pusuit by TH, I also like Rob Maylins, Basils Bush. The latest one ive read is Jim Shellys Carping Uncut and i really enjoyed it "couldnt put it down" quality.
The worst Ive read is Strictly carp by Martin Clarke infact I sold it on with out finishing it

Terry Hearns book is fantastic, I couldnt put it down.
Dont know what everyone elses opinion is on 'learning from reading' about carp fishing but I find now after many years fishing that I dont read books to learn anything anymore. Thats not to say that I know it all in the slightest its just the case that I still fish using generally the same tactics, rigs etc. that I used years ago. I find I get more inspired to fish after reading books like Terrys and Dave Lanes which tell mainly carp fishing tales.

I understand Terry Hearn is close to finishing his 2nd book now, hotcakes come to mind!
If you like a carpers tales as opposed to how to do it books, basils bush and carping uncut are excellent, I also thought Dave Lanes obsession was good.
