Default Rigs in weed

Just got back from an over nighter on my local water and had a nightmare with the weed. Expected it to be clear after winter but I guess it never died back due to the mild temperatures. One of the things that was playing on my mind was how far the weed was growing off the bottom?
Never fished in weed before, so if any one has advice on rigs, it would be greatly appreciated?
I was thinking long, supple hook links and balanced baits?

what type of weed is it?.can you not find any clear areas with a marker?.if theres weed everywhere can you feel your lead hit bottom?.i would try and find areas that are not to thickly covered with weed if you can feel your lead down its not too bad.you can use a chod rig or fish with pva bags putting everything inside the bag.

Thats the way i fish in weed, longish braided rigs with putty to pin it down every few inches. A slow sinking boyant bait, present it with a two inch mesh pva stick threaded on the line and the hook pulled into the groundbait. This serves three purposes, 1. stops the long supple rig tangling 2. helps ensure the hook point is not snagged in weed 3. presents the bait on a nice small mouthful of groundbait, (the boyant bait resting on top of it in theory)

Donk it! Like incognito said when your are casting your lead or marker float keep a tight line while the lead skinks to the bottom if you get a thud through your mainline and rod you've found a clear spot. A cushioned/soft thud when the lead hits the bottom means you've landed in the weed.

If theres alot of weed in the lake then the clear spot is the hot spot Also when you pull your lead along the bottom, when the lead locks up thats the weed spots.
