I am quite new to night fishing.. i have done about 5 nights and i have not dont one where i have been warm and comfy. I have now got the a lite and winter skin and a good bedchair cover so i should hopefully be alright for saturday night, but i was wondering is there anything you do to keep you warm at night or comfy? Like in the day in winter i have heard its good to put your feet on your unhooking mat so the cold doesnt get to your feet asmuch.

Keep warm but don't sweat/get wet - you will get cold that much faster. Drink plenty of warm drinks. Keep a pair of fresh thermal socks in your bag just in case the ones you are wearing get wet. Wear layers of clothing rather than one thermal suit - you can remove and replace layers at will. A good sleeping bag and cover should do the trick. Hot water bottle a must. Close your door if you must (personally I never do) but never if you decide to purchase a heater.
A warm and happy angler is more alert than a cold miserable one!

Try not to wear too much clothes in your sleeping bag, rely on your bag and cover! Otherwise you'll sweat and as the guys have said, then you get cold!
I always sleep with a hat on as - 1.I'm bald! 2.You lose most of your heat through your bonce! Hot water bottle is a must - and for those longer sessions a cheeky bivvy heater! Remember ventilation! keeps the lips from going blue! Last but not least, I find wearing womens underwear helps! It doesn't keep me that warm but at least I'm happy!

i take a hot water bottle but have never needed it yet, i take jackets, hats( i have hair) & overtrousers off, my boots i lace up by going back and forward with the laces through the loop at the back then just slip both feet into them soon as the delks scream, then when ive caught a fish and released dry my hands quickly then get my jacket on rebait and have a brew and a cig then thats me horizontol again and ZZzzzz in no time.
oh and a pair of long johns are a must, and good boots. the coldest i have been sleeping under the stars was in november in canada with the army -42 now that was cold( snot melted before it dripped off). oh and my karma on here (well old site) was -200 best thing that happend getting rid of it

All of the above are good sound ideas( with the possible exception of the womens underwear i find it chafes a little) cant bring my self to close the bivvie door think i only shut it once last year in a storm. just keep dry take a small towel to dry your self if you get wet and have plenty of spare layers

Some good advice,
I think the key to staying warm on winter sessions is to be able to regulate. Ideally you need to layer your clothing in order to trap layers of heat in, but also in a manner that you can remove wick (sweat) outwards where necessary. My basic winter set-up is a decent set of thermal underwear (trousers & top) worn right next to the skin. The design allows warm air to be trapped next to the body but any sweat will be drawn out. On my bottom half I then wear a pair of combats over the thermals, then a thin pair of normal socks with a pair of Sealskinz waterproof and breathable socks worn over the top. The Sealskinz socks are probably one of my all-time favourite fishing related products – warm as toast with a special thick membrane that removes sweat but keeps water out. As such, you don’t even need to worry about putting boots on – I just run out of the bivvy and hit the rod – if it’s wet you can just towl them down afterwards. They are 100% waterproof – even if you stand in the lake - hardwearing as a rock! I’m the same as Matt, as soon as it beeps I want to be on it and these socks make it a piece of cake, a little pricey at £25.00 a pair but honestly worth four times that in terms of the benefit they give me. On my top half I wear a thin T-shirt over my thermals and then a fleece top. This is my standard winter set-up and I wear it all to bed with just a thin hat when it’s sub-zero as I’m follicely challenged! A thin hat is always a good idea whatever head of hair you have as most heat is lost here – especially when you are in a bag. For what it’s worth I never have the door closed on my bivvy and always have my sack opened to the bottom so that I can get out in a hurry – wherever possible I don’t even have the front on my titan –and I’m still warm as toast. You can’t overheat either as the thermals regulate everything and all layers are breathable. When up and out of the bivvy in the day I have a decent winter jacket and trousers from Fishrite – both of which will keep you toast no matter how harsh the wind. J

Follicely challenged! See, I've kept telling people I shave mine this way! But yeah, I'm a baldy too! Gotta keep the dome covered! It does save having greasy hair after a 3 or 4 day session though! Helly hanson thermals have always been a friend of mine, had forgotten about the sealskinz though Jules - hadn't seen them for years but will be purchasing some I reckon!
