Author Topic: Introductions – A bit about yourself! (Read 1,664 times)
Julian Administrator Editor As we’ve had quite a few new members joining of late I thought it might be an idea to do a few introductions to get to know each other a bit better, just a few words on what we’re about really - As such, I’ll kick off with a few words about myself; I’m in my early thirties and live in Leek with my wife Lisa; we’re busy renovating an old Town House and have a young’un due next March. I work on a number of websites for a living, mainly Anglers' Net - The UK Online Fishing Magazine and I’ve also started my own carp bait business this year (Big Kipper Baits) which is coming along slowly but surly. Fishing wise I’m a carp angler at heart and spend most of my available time on the Capesthorne Estate and a few other waters I’m involved with here and there. My other passion is writing (hence the rambling posts) and over the years I’ve had fishing and motorsport articles published on the web and in magazines, etc. Currently working on a carp beginners series and I’m also in the throws of starting to write a novel, which is proving a real headache challenge! Other interests include motorsport & rallying. I’m mad on Scooby’s and have a new shape WRX Impreza that I love to fettle with, and between a group of us we rally Subaru’s, Escorts and alike, more on the team here: Team Autotec Home I’m also well into my music. I used to be a club DJ and Promoter in a past life and ran a DJ/Promotions agency for a few years, so if you ever visited the likes of; Golden, Ministry of Sound, Miss Moneypenny’s Cream, Hacienda, Back to Basics, Shelly’s and such like, we may well have rubbed shoulders in the past. That’s about it really… Anybody else fancy a go!? Link to Post - Back to Top 86.130.85.222 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Nige Administrator Northern-Monkeys Co-Editor I'm the youngster of the bunch. Been attempting to fish for 12 years now. I like to class myself as more a specimen angler than carp angler, although have spent quite a lot of my time recently targetting carp, but wherever I am i don't mind what i catch. I'm into motorbikes myself, had trail bikes from a toddler upwards (scars to prove it ) however now its a case of saving like mad for my long awaited first car, with just under 11 months i can't wait! I like my music, Guns N Roses, Oasis, Stone Roses are just a few of my favourite artists. As for my family, well i have my old man, who is probably the one i owe many of my passions to, as he got me into my bikes and fising - so cheers fella, I have me mum, who seems to be thrashing us all at the barbel fishing, at my brother who - is well into his football and lives nearby the very pisturesque venue, a la Swamp! I have in the last two years been heavily into my fishing with the northern moneky bunch, which has been a great laugh and experience, Julian has got me keen into my websites and articles and I write a bit on www.northern-monkeys.com/MONKEY-JUNIOR , somthing which recently helped me gain sponsorhip to fish the recent British Young Carpers Championships, which i cam ein the top 20, see cheers Jules And as for others, well I have also recently spent a bit of time Mountain biking, and fiddling with my BMX, and have also recently bought an X Box! Hope to hear from the rest of you, and hope to see you on the bank soem time (photgraphing a capesthorne 20 for me hopefully ) Nige, aka Blank, and Monkey Junior Link to Post - Back to Top Logged -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Steve Baker Global Moderator Right then, where to start. I'm 17 (but 18 in November) and I'm currently in my second year on the A level course. Also at the moment I'm about half way through my driving lessons and i hope that i will pass it at the end of this year or at the beginning of next year. I'm proper itching to get behind the wheel of a car once Ive passed so that i can go freely, where ever i want (which will probably, most of the time will be Capesthorne for the foreseeable future) Ive been fishing for all sorts since i was 11, starting on my local pools float fishing for bits with the good old maggot. It wasn't until i got all of my tackle nicked a few years back(the thieving b*****ds ) that i really started to focus mainly on my carp fishing. After a few years of catching most of the biguns from around my immediate local area i decided to join SOTAS to fish for some proper stunning english fish. At the moment you will find me trying to catch my first capesthorne carp which at the moment seems a long way off. Like Nige i am also well into my music, liking bands such as Bloc Party, Audioslave, Oasis, The chilli peppers and many more, mainly of which is new talent which have come to prominence within the last few years Thats about it for now as a can't think of owt else to say. I hope to see you around sometime around the Stoke waters. Wont bore you with anything else, stressfull career etc. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- TartanCarper NMFF Super Poster Hi i'm Dave, 31, and live just outside Crewe. I'm from Motherwell, Scotland - but have been living down here the last 9 years. Work as a Train Driver. (choo-choo) Started fishing for Trout with my Uncle on local stretch of River Clyde when i was around 8, then got into Grayling during winter months, then onto a bit of advanced fluff chucking up to early teens for Trout, Sea Trout, Salmon & Grayling. Slowly got into catching the odd Bream on a large loch during school holidays and getting "snapped off" by a Pike got my head buzzing with excitement, and started chasing them for a bit. (and still do) One day i watched an old bloke bank a small Carp, and after seeing it and having a chat with him, i started to try and tempt one. Long story short, i did get a few small ones around 4 to 5 lbs, but to a 14 or 15 year old these were huge monsters !! The problem i had was the majority of fishing in Scotland is "Game", and i had to travel a bit for any "Coarse", which hardly anyone done. There was a loch i found out about through my Uncle, that had tales of monster Pike, and Carp. So i got on there whenever possible to try and learn the place and catch some. I had a few years lay off in late teens / early twenties, cos women and booze came on the seen, plus i was a season ticket holder at Motherwell, and had to try and cram everything in. I moved down here through my job in Feb 1997, and after a few months started hitting the Weaver for Chub, and day ticket waters for small stuff on float gear, slowly gaining confidence. Well here we are in 2005, and i'm married with a wee boy who's 3 weeks old, and a big mad mental Labrador. I fished Warrington waters for the last 4 or 5 years, and now i'm concentrating on Stoke & PA's. PHEW !!! (my fingers are sore after that) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- marker well i might as well add mine i'm 38 and live in wirral, i started fishing at the age of 5 and similar to a few others my uncle was into match fishing at the time and he used to take me when he was practising, i entered a few matches myself but never really got anywhere lol i've fished all through my life even during the late teenage years of booze and women....although not as much lol i turned to carp fishing in 1989 and thats what i've been doing ever since, i started locally and quickly started travelling to cheshire in search of bigger fish, i was a sotas member for 7 years, most of which i spent on capesthorne at one time or another i've been a member of lymm, warrington, winsford, northwich, sotas and a few others i can't remember .....currently i'm fishing paas waters i work for the nhs as a clerk in operational management, at least until november when i'm due to start a new post as an i.t officer, been with my girlfriend for six years now although no children so i pretty much get to fish when i want to Link to Post - Back to Top 80.5.160.6 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- philntomo NMFF Regular Hi, im Phil 33 from Heald Green which is about 2 miles from Wilmslow towards Mcr airport... Recently joined SOT Angling Society and looking forward to some good sessions when the ice melts! Work as Occupational Health Advisor in offshore oil industry (Norway) so get plenty of time off to travel about. Have carp fished just about everywhere from Cornwall to Cumbernauld! Have a house in Bulgaria where I have attempted to build up a list of venues. Problem is that Bulgarians eat carp like salmon! See my freebi website for info I've collected to date. Will be handy if you go over on holiday. http://fishing-in-bulgaria.mysite.wanadoo-members.co.uk Cheers all John T -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- kevw NMFF Super Poster Seems to be a theme here but yet another new sotas member, have been reading up on venues via the forums - most helpful - so decided to join in. Am 43, live in Wigan and have been fishing from early age. Fished for most species, concentrating on carp for 13 yrs or so though still enjoy rivers and tench fishing when time limited. Married, two teenage kids. Carp fished number of local day ticket waters and some French trips, been on syndicate for 3 yrs at Catton Park nr Burton on Trent. Hope to have a few fish next year, look forward to seeing some of you while out and about. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- comstive NMFF Newcomer Hi folks, Thanks for the welcome! My exploits at carp fishing in Bulgaria (and Romania) have turned up some really unusual queries, including a formal invitation from the Macedonian National Carp Fishing Team (runners up in World carp Championships!). These guys are amazing, they travel everywhere carp fishing. They fish through the Macedonian winter (minus 40 degrees!) and still catch! They bivvy just like us but have huge propane heaters which blow on the bivvy. Its pretty amazing. Bulgaria is completely untouched as far as carp fishing is concerned. I travel about the country in Spring/Summer and test out various venues and some need mountaineering gear to reach! The best so far has been Tsonevo Dam which is a reasonable distance from Varna and sits by a picture-postcard village. As in Romania, the coppers can be a pain, especially if night fishing. They cannot absorb the concept of fishing at night therefore treat you like a vagrant! Couple of quid usually resolves things. If you are looking for cutting edge fishing adventure - head for Bulgaria. If you have real pioneering spirit - head for Romania! Cheers John T PS _ Helps if you speak Russian! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- philo NMFF Regular Been on here for a while but only just got round to this: My names Phil morgan im 18 from widnes over L'pool way. I'm 24, living in staff's but originally i was a southun boy from northants. been up this way for about 5 years. started of course fishing with my dad when i was younger. I started to get interested in the carp side of things whilst a college and manage to get myself a Pb of 21lb. But as you no when your a student you spend more and more time working and studying! ha ha (well something like that) So basically fell out the fishing scene altogether. (sad days) I started back up in early 05 and Ive spent as much time on the bank as poss, catching up on lost time! joined sotas this year, so looking forward to getting on the bank and giving it a go. And of course beating me Pb!

Decided this year to fish Redesmere and what a brilliant water it is I just love the place, only doing nights so I can take my doughter fishing at the weekends as she is well into her float and feeder fishing.I do 2 weeks every year fishing in France at diferent venues my biggest pb abroad is a mirror of 63lb 8oz but having said that I still havent cought a 30lb from England yet but that's my goal for this year. Other interests are Footy playing and folowing the mighty reds thats United not the scouse ***** . I allso love me music chillies, foo fighters, muse, oasis ect. I kept koi carp for a few years but gave up when we moved house. Hope to see you on the bank Tight lines Colin. Last edited by Stig; 03-02-2007 at 10:01 AM. |

Hello - my name is Lee, I am 28 years old, my favorite colour is blue and I like fishing!
Only joking guys! The name and age are correct though! Well, what can I say that may actually be of interest to anyone reading this, this afternoon? I'm a Stoke lad through and through, served 6 years in the army in various trades and roles then proceeded to do a couple of years in west Midlands police (fetish for uniforms) before venturing into private security abroad for 12 month! Now I work for a well know media brand managing various aspects. I began fishing from a very early age 4 or 5 but had a prolonged break due to my career commitments only to resume last year! I have a passion for 'very' fast cars, I wont mention mine otherwise you'll think I'm a tart! But, needless to say it goes quick! (wouldn't you say Baggin / Smoke?) I've always had an interest in the outdoor lifestyle (I dont mean doggin!) and it now kills me to work in an office! I'm pretty much into all music as long as I can do the robot to it and have zero concept of money - hence my credit cards!lol I like to approach life in a light hearted manner and really can't be ars*d with any form of hassle - just bought a new pad in Trentham and am currently 'Living the dream' thanks to my numbers coming in! Or did they?

Hi my name is Peter
Im 47 and live by the sea on the Wirral, got the nickname Tenchy as a kid as all I seemed to catch was tench. Worked my way through the scene match, pike, sea and started specimen hunting about 25yrs or so ago. Finding carp to be a bit mysterious I settled down just fishing for them. First 20 was a common from Redesmere in 1985 at 27lb 6oz. Uk PB 28lb 14oz Continental PB Mirror of 41lb 8oz. Spent many years in a shropshire syndicate and travelled around fishing many of the major waters. Still like the odd day out bit bashing or sea fishing. In 2004 I was very ill and have semi retired from work, my intention is to get more involved in the sport I love so much and chill out. I do a lot of charity work now in relation to fishing and support Macmillan Cancer Support. Well thats all from me I wish you all Tight Lines.

![]() I'm andy i'm 23 and from Hyde, Stockport. Work as a computer aided designer for a boat buiiding company (if you want a 5 million pound bait baot give me a shout ) Or if you want any expertly rolled boilies giveme a shout for that too .Anyway, started out life as most people do, fishing for bits and them moving onto big bream then tencthen pike fishing and then finally found my calling in the world of carp fishing. I've been fishing for carp now for abour 12 years, with varying success. Acouple of years bakc i took my PB mirror from Linear's Hardwick lake at 37lb 7oz and ever since then have been odsessed with big water carp and this season i'm off to tatton and coombs resi for some low stock long blank carping LOL. You'll usually find me on the banks of the fed card's waters though, as i'm still after a very illusive fish from one of their waters. Anyway that's me love me or hate me? i don't care coz you're stuck with me

Hi all my name is Scott i am a 36yr old cheadle lad married to Vanessa and have the best daughter Jordyn who's eight. I am the proprietor of S.A.E bait services and would descibe myself as a battle hardend carp angler of 23yrs serving my apprentiship on local ponds then progressing through the ranks in the early ninetys on waveny's C & G lakes A1 pits and good old early days on Wesport lake. I ve seen some things on my travels from trainspotting toilets to scuba divers taking out rigs and strange folks lighting farts in the night but have been lucky enough to have some good fish on the way.I now prefer the quieter life on some of the big lower stocked un nown waters.
Tight lines. |
