Default Carp Society

What's the crack these days with the CS?

Many years ago we had a cracking CS region with Inny and Andy Jones. They did the area proud with people like Ritchie Mac and Maylin putting on superb shows at Wye Road.

It kicked off well again 4-5 years back when Tim had a go at Goldenhill but since then nothing?

A shame really...

yeh i wondered about this the other week.I went to that last show at Goldenhill and it was cracking, great slide show from Dave Lane if I remember rightly all about Sonning.
I was even lucky enough to win 48hrs at Horseshoe for 2 people in the raffle I went and guess what I fished just up from where Korda Underwater part 1 was filmed in Summer Bay.The guy in the actual swim had a 25 and a 19 whilst I was there.Me, I just had the usual.....2 5lb tench...
Its a lovely lake though, wouldn't mind visiting it again. Come on Carp Society lets get a regional meeting going on in the Stoke area again.....

The Charity event in bromborough on the 23rd February will be much the same as the old Do's only the proceeds go to Macmillan Cancer Support not the Carp Society and I can tell you there is one mega raffle not only can you win a horseshoe ticket of which I have two. You could win an All Inclusive holiday to france plus lots of others infact there were over 30 prizes at last count.

Default carp society

thanks for the kind words on the shows guys, for those that dont know i ran the stoke/staffs region of the carp society for a couple of years and am proud to say that the shows held at goldenhill were all well recieved. we had talks from gary bayes, martin clarke, chillie, dave lane and martin gibbinson. Unfortuanatly the carp society changed their policy on regional shows and restructoring so i decided to stand down. Now 3 years later i am in the process of starting things up again and would appreciate some feed back on who you guys would like to see doing the talks. i felt the job of a regional organiser has always been one that brings both pleasure and frustration. Seeing 200 od people having a good night out in the winter and listening to some of the best anglers inthe country is both pleasurable and fullfilling but there are a lot of behind the scences hassles.
The other question is..
Do you guys out there want regional meeting/shows every winter, remember you dont have to be a society member to attend these shows.

Dont think theres much chance of getting them pair up here to do a talk but good suggestion rola. What about it guys there seems plenty out there who would like meetings/shows put on in the northwest and matt hayes seems to have drawn in a crowd at the wirral show so any thoughts on speakers.. its your region so any thoughts?

Firstly I would like to say to Steve, you have a very good memory. The meetings Andy and I ran were around 18 or 19 years ago.... that's scary... I'm getting old!! We had great speakers and the wrights pie's were an added bonus. I could never understand why Maccy didnt want to use his raffle prize of a weekend on Redmire.

I agree with Tim, the meetings are a great pleasure to actually run on the night but the organising required to arrange them was a nightmare. We did have a few local anglers talking, including the late Marc Ridgway and also Liz and Geoff. These may not have been big stars but they were very well received and I'm sure there are many anglers out there locally who could put together something of interest (Tim, what about "Invader"???)

Tim, are you doing this on your own or as part of the society???

You couldn't afford the 'Invader', I hear he spends most
of his time Big Game hunting with the Cowardly Lion nowadays . . .

Ah, the good old Wye Road days, brings back some happy memories. Jesus Inny, you've got a good memory, remembering my Redmire weekend. I can't even think why i gave it up, or indeed how much i sold it for, or what i bloody swapped it for come to think of it.
All i know is i nearly passed out when you called out my raffle ticket number.

Talking of Wye Road, do you remember big Bob Alcock?? He used to get through about 6 Wrights Pies at the interval, the gutsy thing !!!!! And occasionally you'd get a guest appearance from Brian 'the triumvirate' Garner, he'd just prop the bar up with Tapkin and supp Guiness all night, happy days indeed.

Don't suppose you can ever replace those memories or the way things were back then at Wye Road, or indeed at Tim's shows up at Goldenhill, but as others have said there's definately a market for Carp shows around Stoke.
