I am slightly shocked that pike seem to be quite keen on eating backleads in various lakes though. The only (far fetched!) explanation I can come up with, other than curiousity, is that surface ripples cause your line to vibrate slightly, these vibrations are transmitted to the back lead and the pike senses this and thinks it is food?

Plausible or utter rubbish - what do you reckon?

Mike.
its possible m8 that the pike are snagging up on the line that is not pinned down and then as it swims off it might then snag up on your backlead !
ive regular seen pike patrolling under my rod tips and ive also experienced it where they,ve snagged my line thats not pinned down and when ive struck ive felt the line slip a bit then tighten up when the pike has come in contact with either the backlead or the terminal tackle !
