Question Remy Knowledge Required Please.

Hi all, can anyone give any in depth info on lake remy i.e tactics rigs baits location, This lakes been recomended to a friend by others that have fished it before, so he will be getting loads of info. I would be greatfull for any info as i am still a french virgin. and i think it's gonna be a bit of a step up tackle and bait wise from flicking ounce and half leads on capesthorne. Any info greatly appreciated, especially what tackle to take. How much bait to expect to use etc, sorry to sound like such a newbie, but to france i am.

You will love it mate, the lake is set in the heart off a Forrest just outside the Champagne area of France. The lake itself is like an L shape ( see map ) with 5 swims spread around equally so you have plenty of space to fish. Each swim is a double swim so its good for a social if you are fishing with your mate.

It was about 5-6 years ago when I first visited Remy with my fishing partner Dave (highwayman) and we did not know what to expect as nobody we knew had ever been to the lake before so we could not source any info at all

When you book you get directions to Janchery where you will meet the head bailiff pay your moneys and be given the directions to Remy.

You will drive down the side of the Orient ( trust me you must stop and have a look, its one awesome piece of water ) and follow the map to the lake I hope for your sake that they have sorted the Forrest road out down to the lake as it is full of holes and gully's but is passable with care

Yes mate it will be a tad of a step up but nothing you need to worry about. think of it as the same sort of fishing as you would do here at home

Tackle wise, you wont need more than 2-35 rods as the most you will be chucking is 100 yards. I used a set of Amorphous rods that have been in my possession for many a moon and have caught and landed fish up to just short of 46 lb, so you don't need to go out and buy 3-5 rods just for the trip

One rule they used to have ( not sure if it is still in force but it should be ) is that your unhooking mats must be the beany type with padded shoulders all round. Check this out before you go pal.

Would advise that the bivy you take has a sewn in ground sheet as there are plenty of nasty grotsters knocking about with the lake being in the heart of a forest, Sleep easy at night

Ok the bait situation? = how long is a piece of string. Take with you your preferred choice, something you are confident to be sat behind and I am sure it will work for you On both visits I took 10k of Carp Company's Icelandic red and 10k of Tiger nut and 10 k sauce boiles plus you can buy 25k of pellets at Jonchery to bulk out you bait and trust me once you start getting the action you must keep putting the bait in to keep them on the munch

I noticed that both time we went the fish much preferred the frozen baits to the ready mades even though we caught on both. It got to a stage when we were rationing the freezer baits for hook baits so just make sure you take enough off your chosen baits with you mate.

Take a look at the photo of the car - yes it was on its rollocks but we had everything we needed for a weeks fishing and a large freezer box in as well. If you have the chance to use a van or 4x4 your laughing.

Once you arrive at the lake you will be gob smacked with its beauty

You will need too get all your water and food supply's to last you a few days at Janchery as there are no facility's at all at the lake ( not the lake the shop in the nearby village ) now one thing to bare in mind is that the Frenches have very weird opening times so check it out when you get there ) there is a bakers in the village also and trust me the French bread is like nout at home its fantastic and treat yourself to some fresh made croissants and cakes )

the best thing to do is take enough food with you to get you through the first few days so you can get used to the place and not have to be driving about all the time.

As I said before there are no facility's at the lake full stop not even a proper toilet - just a hole in the ground with a box you sit on trust me make sure you take a sturdy bucket with you

I have never fish a place that is you and nature in this capacity before, the wildlife is awesome = you can expect to see all forest wildlife - wild boar - dear-fox's - eagles - herons - owl's its unbelievable mate.

A word of warning - make sure all your rubbish is in bags and tied up the trees as you don't want to encourage the wildlife to pester your camp

If you are not bothered about roughing it and fishing solid for a week you will have a excellent time with the chance of catching quite a few fish

I visited Remy 2 years on the trot, the second time was with Cockney rebel so as you can Sus I would have not returned if I had not enjoyed myself

The average stamp of fish you are looking to catch is plenty of 25+ fish with quite a few 30s thrown in. I had fish up to 38lb and both my pals had fish over 35lb but as you say "that was then" 5 -6 years ago!!!!!!

It has been pointed out to you above that a new firm has got control of the lake now so give them a bell and get yourself a copy of the DVD

This lake is an ideal place to go for you first trip to France, you will love it pal and I am sure you will get quite a few fish under your belt

On both trips to Remy, we were the only people on the lake for the whole week - Fantastic, hope you get the same. If you do don't be afraid to wonder about through the day with a couple of rods and spend a couple of hours trying different spots. Dropping a bit of bait in vacant swims and then keeping you eye on where you have placed it will pay off big time as the fish will definitely let you know when they arrive

Some pics for you pal,

The map of the lake, the first year we fished swim 4 and the second started of in 4 but moved to 5 as there were far More fish showing and we bagged up

how to ruin a good car ( remember boys it was 5 years ago )

Base camp set up for the week with the cooking shelter in the middle

Swim 5, loads of space to share

some cracking fish for you to look at, the commons are minters

Connie I hope this gives you a taste of the flavor pal, when we were there a few years ago it was an excellent runs water. On both trips we caught more than 50 carp between us with very few being under 20lb

Hope the pictures have come out ok as this is my first attempt at scanning them onto a computer

I have a small map and info still pal and if you pm me your address I will be more than happy to let you have it

Have a good time and let us know how you fared pal,

Cheers Tony

PS = Mods I know this is a long post and is probably taking up a lot of memory so when Connie has replied you are free to delete it if you so see fit

Many thanks and I hope it helps you
