Default Le Moulin du Mee 2008 catch reports

The first week finished with Mark and Adrian Robinson for Lincolnshire bagging 67 carp in very difficult conditions. With a cold northerley wind for much of the week interspersed with sunshine, frost and a little rain we saw water temperatures remaining low and no real feeding pattern emerging. Their catch included a host of twenties and upper doubles plus 6 nice 30's up to 37lb. All the carp were in stunning condition, fin perfect and hard fighting. It appears that although a lot of carp were caught a great many of those were grown on originals rather than the stocked carp. I feel that the unseasonally cold weather has stopped the bigger fish coming on the feed other than the odd brief period. It was also interesting to note that the usually highly succesful methods of large beds of pellet and boilies failed to produce other than the odd fish whereas yellow popups seemed to arouse the curiosity of carp that were not seriously on the feed. All in all the lads enjoyed a great fishing holiday and were already talking about returning next year before they left.

The overriding factor these past 10 days or so has been the weather and how the heavy rainfall and freezing night temperatures have had an adverse effect of the fishing generally. After a great week one with 67 carp week 2 saw just 2 anglers, Darren and James catch 20 carp in weather that gradually got worse and worse as the week progressed. Heavy rain, sleet and freezing night temperatures put a stop to any serious feeding the carp were likely to consider embarking on. All credit to the boys for sticking things out and they were rewarded for their efforts with some stunning fish, the best being a cracking 30lb common closely followed by mirrors of 28.3,27, and 4 at 26lb. Overall 11 of the carp were over 20lb with the remainder being grown on originals between 12 and 19lb.

The third week has seen just about the worst spring fishing conditions we had ever seen here at Le Moulin du Mee with day after day of driving rain, strong winds and very low nightime temperatures. Fishing was very hard indeed, however the lads still managed 19 carp for the week including 14 over 20lb and 4 x 30's up to 34lb. The 20's included 2 at 29.5lb's and a further 4 over 25lb so average weights were very good indeed. Amongst them were several pb's so the boys left a bit battered but very happy.

As previously I cannot seem to get pictures to load so if you fancy a peek they are all on our daily catch report diary on carpdreams.wordpress.com

Default Week 3 results

After a beginning of torrential rain and night frosts the week has ended with glorious sunshine and genuine springlike temperatures. The total catch has included a new catfish record for the fishery at 54.9lb’s and 66 carp up to 38lb. Although the biggies are still reluctant to feed with any confidence we have seen 2 carp between 35 and 40lb’s, 7 between 30 and 35lb’s, 18 between 25 and 30lb’s, 17 between 20 and 25lb’s 15 between 15 and 20lb’s and 7 between 10 and 15lb’s. All in all its been a really enjoyable week with Le Moulin du Mee first timers Gorden, Lee, Stephen and Adam as well as stalwarts of our fishery Tim and Dave enjoying a friendly week with plenty of banter to complement the fishing. We look forward to seeing everyone again when the sun is shining and the fish are biting.

One factor commented on by all anglers was the superb condition of the fish with big golden tails and barely a scale out of place. The exciting thing for us is that we have yet to see the bigger carp banked and with the exception of the 2 over 35lb’s the remaining 30’s were all upper 20’s last season. There is no doubt that sometime soon some really cracking lumps are going to be banked so keep an eye on the blog for daily updates.

Week 4 Catch results for Le Moulin du Mee.

Week 4 ended with a lovely warm sunny day which saw plenty of suntans developing but very few carp as they prepared to spawn. This morning the lads reported plenty of activity in the shallows overnight so I think that the dip in catches is due to the commencement of the spawning ritual.

Totals for the week were a record and amounted to 156 carp with……

4 carp between 35 and 40lb, 12 carp between 30 and 35lb, 32 between 25 and 30lb, 46 between 20 and 25lb’s and the remainder being grown on doubles. All the lads broke their pb’s and in several cases several times during the week. 10 of the 30+ carp were commons with the larger mirrors not showing up as expected. It would appear that some of the commons had already spawned which may account for the high amount caught during the period. I think that the difficult weather conditions we have experienced so far this season has been a factor in the way catches have see sawed with some days being extremely hectic and others very quiet. This period of settled warm weather should see the main body of carp complete spawning and getting on the feed quite quickly.

Certainly our start to the season has been superb considering the appalling weather conditions we have seen. The constant changes in temperature has meant the carp have never really settled into any regular feeding patterns and with this consideration I think the anglers have all done extremely well. I really believe this is going to be a very exciting season.

Default Week 5 catch results

The week ended with the carp feeding once again after their hectic spawning activity in the early part. The weather has settled to warm and sunny with the odd passing cloud and very little wind and signs of feeding carp are to be seen all over the lake. Strange how a week can start so dismally and finish in such fine form. Regular visitor Paul fishing ‘Sams’ swim, and often fishing just nights, did very well indeed and finished with 27 carp to his own rods including 7 over 30lb’s and 2 over 35lbs. A great feat in difficult conditions. Father and son Frans and Koen from Holland are also doing well fishing the shallows from ‘The Sanctuary’ and so far (they are on a monday to monday trip) they have amassed 24 carp between them.

Total for the week is 63 carp broken down as follows -

35lb - 40lb, 3 carp.

30lb - 35lb, 6 carp.

25lb - 30lb, 15 carp.

20lb - 25lb, 21 carp.

15lb - 20lb, 9 carp.

10lb - 15lb, 9 carp.

There was also a small sturgeon caught.

As mentioned in an earlier post many of the fish are at spawned out weights and in some case are exhibiting the odd scrape or lost scale as a result of spawning activity. Hopefully in a month all these marks will have healed and the carp will be back to their best. One thing is puzzling is that most of the bigger carp have yet to show up in catches this year so we are not certain whether they have spawned or not. Time will tell.

Default Latest catch report...May 23rd 2008

Le Moulin du Mee catch report. W/e May 24th 2008.

This week we had an exclusive booking for 4 anglers and despite constantly changing weather conditions they managed to bank a total of 94 carp, 2 sturgeon and a solitary catfish.
The carp weights were as follows... 30lb+ - 14 carp, between 25-30lb - 23 carp, between 20-25lb - 24 carp, between 15 - 20lb - 21 carp, between 10-15lb - 11 carp.
Top rod for the week was Graham Odiam from Essex who banked a total of 49 carp, 1 sturgeon and a catfish. Prior to arriving at Le Moulin du Mee Graham had voiced his one wish of landing a 30lb + common carp....well he actually managed 3 of them at 34.12, 33.10 and 30.07 as well as mirrors of 34.6,32.10 and 30.1. Both the biggest mirror and common were new pb's for Graham .A great result !! Fellow angler Adam Bassett also broke his common and mirror pb's with a 33.2 common and a 31 mirror amongst his catch of 22 carp. Adams father Ray arrived with a pb of 15lb and well and truly smashed that with chunky 30.2 mirror amongst his catch of 13 carp. John (Shandy) Shand also broke both his pb's with a cracking 34.0 common and 32.8 mirror along with another 16 carp and a sturgeon.
What with constantly changing weather and spawning activity the lads did extremely well to amass such a catch and at times had to work hard for results. With 15 acres at their disposal fortunately they had plenty of options and all tried different swims at time during their stay.
All in all a great weeks fishing.

Default W/e May 31st results.

A good week overall despite the floods, etc with 82 carp to the 4 anglers we had on. Serious carpers Patrick and Gurtjen did extremely well and accounted for some cracking fish including 9 x 30’s with 5 of the them over 35lb. Thats good weights when you consider the bulk of the fish have now completed spawning and so are at their lowest weights of the year. The more laid back Werner and Danny had fewer carp but still enjoyed a relaxed week with several new pb’s and lots of laughter. All 4 lads are rebooking for both later this year and for next spring so the week can be counted a great success. All credit to them putting up with the deluge of midweek and still coming up smiling.

Tally is as follows…

35 - 40lb….5 carp

30 - 35lb….5 carp

25 - 30lb….12 carp

20 - 25lb….37 carp

15 - 20lb….17 carp

10 - 15lb….6 carp

The average weights is down of previous weeks, partly through spawning weight losses and partly because the smaller fish seem to be more on the feed than the 20 + carp. The 30+ fish were all nice fish but only one of them was a common which is at odds with previous weeks when big commons were far more in evidence.

Default Latest catch reports.

Another cracking couple of weeks at Le Moulin du Mee with 5 anglers sharing a weeks bag of 139 carp comprising 16 x 30's up to 37.5lb's and a further 32 x between 25 and 30lb's and 38 between 20 and 25lb's. The remainder were mainly good doubles. Top rod was Shane Beckinsale, a Le Moulin du Mee regular, who had 46 carp including 10 over 30lb's. Best fish was the 37.5lb mirror to Eric Brown.
The following week saw Arthur and Tay from Holland really bag up and in just 4 days fishing banked 52 carp up to 40.4lb's. Breakdown of their catch shows a good average size with 1 x 40lb, 3 between 35 and 40lb,13 between 30 and 35lb, 15 between 25 and 30lb and 11 between 20 and 25lb. The remainder were grown on doubles.

There is no doubt that our policy of never having more than 6 anglers max fishing the 15 acres on Le Mee is really proving a wise decision with nearly all anglers catching well and the condition of the carp being really first class. Everyone is staggered at the fighting ability of our fish with even the doubles punching well above their weight and the bigger fish really being quite a handful once hooked. We estimate that the back end of the 2008 season will see a good few more 40+ fish being banked with 2009 seeing a huge amount of 30's as well as a healthy head of 40+ fish. Certainly our anglers are anticipating a great 2009 with most of them already booked in !!!

Default Nearly the ton !!

A century……..not quite !!!

September 27, 2008 by jimeveriss | Edit

Nigel Knapp and Steve (Noddy) finished very happy anglers indeed having caught 99 carp between them for their week. They both arrived with the hope that they could catch a 30lb fish apiece during their week but never anticipated a catch that included a 43.12 common plus a further 12 over 30lb’s. Back this up with 49 x 20+ carp as well as 37 doubles and you can see why they felt it was a week to remember. Some nice commons showed with Steve bagging a new pb at 43lb 12oz and Nigel having a brace at 37lb’s and 36lb’s. In fact Nigel had 7 double takes with the best pair landed of 32 and 27lb. Good fishing coupled with settled weather certainly ensured that a good catch was on the cards and even the cold Northerly wind failed to dampen things with plenty of fish coming throughout the daylight hours. Once again the carp were in superb condition and gave a great account or themselves once hooked and it was really difficult to gauge whether it was a good 30lb fish or a high double until the fish was in the net. Another pleasing factor is that of the 20+ carp landed at least half can be expected to have reached the 30lb mark by next spring augering well for the fishing in 2009. With another month to go this season we are hoping a few of the big mirrors grace the bank and perhaps we will see another 40+ common or two also.

Default The Dutch lads have it off !!!

Dutch anglers, Gertjen and Patrick (CC) finished their week on 90 carp, an awesome result for the lads with the weather changing from summer to winter in the course of their stay. This morning they awoke to a heavy frost after a night of very cold temperatures and a little freezing rain in the early hours. A complete contrast to the hot sunshine the Saturday they arrived. Netherless the carp played ball and the lads had some cracking fish in their weeks catch including another new 40 to Patrick...a 41lb mirror. The total for the weeks fishing is below...

40+..........1 carp

35 - 40.....3 carp

30 - 35.....8 carp

25 - 30...23 carp

20 - 25...26 carp

doubles...29 carp

With the growth rates we are achieving it is likely that most of the carp caught this week will be in the next category up by the start of 2009 season. A mouth watering prospect !!!
