Default Millstone Pool - Results

Well, myself, Wooly and Deepend, plus 2 other non-forum members just returned from a week at Millstone.

All I can say is WOW. We caught 62 fish between us, which as far as we could see from the catch reports is the second highest for a full week for several years.

Anyway, a few brief numbers.

Myself - 10 fish

Mirrors: 47lb8oz, 43lb, 42lb8oz, 42lb8oz, 37lb4oz, 35lb8oz, 27lb8oz, 21lb

Commons: 26lb, 19lb8oz

Wooly managed 21 fish, including a 51.8 and 55.8, both mirrors.

The biggest fell to one of the non-forum members Phil, at 56lb8oz.

Deepend finished with 7 fish after some expert tuition by Wooly, including 2 x 40's, one being his first ever carp.

Here's a few shots of the week.. Wooly will have plenty more

__________________________________________________ ____________

My view from Swim 7

My first fish of the week, at 42lb8oz

My second fish at 35lb8oz

A brace of 40's, as I played and landed the first fish my other rod ripped off.

42lb8oz

The second fish of the double hook up, 43lb dead on.

Finally my biggest fish of the week and PB, 47lb8oz

No mate, it's a guy called Simon and his dad, unless that's his Dads name. Wooly may know.

I’ve been fishing in France now for 20 years. In this time I’ve seen some sights, suffered some nightmares, caught some fish, but, overall enjoyed myself immensely. However, I have never witnessed as many big fish caught as achieved on our trip to Millstone, ever. Even when I fished Les Quis I never saw as many 40s and 50s caught in a single week, even though there were over 20 anglers fishing, not the 5 on our trip. Considering 2 of the guys were absolute beginners, just makes the achievement even more special.
I knew Millstone pool had the capacity to produce some really big fish, but had no idea just how many could be caught in 1 week. Last time I fished the lake I was suffering from a slipped disk and was not on top form. When I read the log book it was obvious the lake could produce several 40s in a week, but I do not remember seeing 16 x 40s and 3 x 50s in the book ever. The average catch for the lake is usually around 40 fish per week, often split between 5 experienced carp anglers. Some weeks the lake produces more, very often, considerably less.
Everyone on our trip fished in a similar manner. The main approach being to feed Millstones excellent growth pellets and fish what I would describe as alternative type hook baits, as opposed to the usual approach of freezer baits used by a lot of guys in the log book.
Personally I have been thinking about how I would fish each and everyone of the swims on the lake for over 2 years, since my last visit. What baits, ranges, rigs, rods etc. For this trip I only spent £40 on bait – the lowest I have spent for many years. With the exception of 1 rod location which did not produce, just about everything I did / tried worked.
Some of the fish did not fight as hard as I would have expected, no doubt due to early low temperatures encountered through the nights and mornings, but a few of them put up tremendous long, dogged scraps. My biggest fish for the week took 35 minutes to land. On the Thursday I managed something I will probably never repeat – 4 forties and a 50 in a single day.
If anyone out there is looking for a top venue to fish I would recommend you fish this lake. The facilities are excellent, the lake is beautiful to look at and it contains probably one of the finest stocks of carp in the whole of France. It rewards hard effort and can be fished in so many ways. There are some fantastic stalking opportunities on the lake for those who prefer to fish that way, as well as excellent swims with loads of features to fish to. Just trying different features within the swim often resulted in extra bonus fish. Mutley moved swim twice, each time resulting in 2 forties after his first swim failed to produce – excellent fishing in my opinion.
I’ve put some pictures of the more notable fish I caught as well as Phils 56 ½ and Pauls best fish.
Someone once asked me why I often try and help others on these trips, giving away secret edges I have worked hard at developing. I think the last picture of Steve with his biggest at 34.06 explains it all – just look at that grin!!!
The fish should come up in the following order (if at all):
41.08 mirror, Paul (deep end) 41.02, Phil 56.08, 55.08, 55.08, 46.06, 42,04 common, 36.10, Paul 41.06, 46.0, 42.14, 51.06, 41.06, 48.04, Steve 34.06.
For those interested in the total stats for the trip, they were as follows:
3 x 50s to 56.08.
16 x 40s to 48lb.
35 x 30s to 38lb.
7 x 20s to 29lb.
1 double.
Total 62 fish.
