As the only member of the forum on the trip not having contributed anything to the report so far I have decided to add a few notes on behalf of the two beginners.

Without the openness and willingness of all three of the experienced guys on the trip, even with all the much appreciated help from the forum, it could have been a complete bust for Steve and I.
Having paid to fish for themselves to take the time to not only show what to do but to explain the theory behind it and why some other people have a different view on the issue over a huge range of topics from rigs to bait boats to frozen vs air dried boilies, to method feeders etc. etc. far exceeded what could have been reasonably expected.

Contrary to popular belief French fish do not "fall on your hook" at all venues and with three times where the fish distinctly changed their feeding habits during the week without being shown modified approaches that could be used I might never have caught a fish and from the records at the lake this would not be entirely unusual.

As the venue tended to responded to the quality of the fishing I was fortunate to be on the only real double swim on the lake with Wooly. This was a real eye-opener to the level of preparation required both before the trip and on the bank plus I did learn some of his "secrets" and no, I'm not telling, you will have to ask him yourself - I'm sure he will be happy to express his opinion on most subjects if asked.
They may not all be the current vogue but the results speak for themselves - even if ignore his own fairly special results, like the 4 x 40's and a 50 in less than a 24 hour period (mainly landed on rods with a TC of 2.25lb!), his suggestions on rods/reels/rigs for myself were at odds with most tackle shops/current thinking expressed in the mags but resulted in from 7 runs all 7 fish landed with the smallest over 30lds and having caught 21 fish Wooly only lost three and two of those were to a snag that the owners did not know was there.

If you are interested in the set-up send me a PM and I will give you the details - I don't want to start a huge debate on the subject but suffice it to say stiff rods and big pits did not feature at all.
