Default April trip to Ebro

to cut a long story short we went to fish mequinenza early April, guiding service wasn't great but we hired a car so as not to be dependant on the guides guiding! 8 fish taken in a week and numerous cats lost even on 50lb powerpro and a ton-up hooklength!! My mate had a 28 on the last morning before flying out but here's a few pics of a pair of 22's and a 19 along with our rig of choice - a pair of 22mil bad boys

A mate of mine started going a few years back and he last went about a year ago I think. When he first went he was getting around 40 fish a week it was that prolific. He now thinks the big cats are eating the 20+ carp... its gone down bank he thinks..Well done on the fish though ...did you catch one of the elusive mirrors as there a few in there but most carp are commons.

Funny you say that Deano, we set up a swim down from 3 german anglers bank fishing for cats and wandered over after they'd boated out and chinned a bit cat. Once they'd got it on shore it regurgitated about 3lb of halibuts and a half digested common that looked to be pushing the 20's The cats have already wiped out the comizo barbel and many of the zander.

I've never fished for for 20's that have been prey for other fish and it definitely makes them more wary. Trouble is there are so many big cats that you can't get a decent bed of bait out as as soon as the carp start chruning it up it attracts the cats and the carp disappear - tough fishing!

I fish the St Lawrence a lot on both the canadian an US sides and 40 carp a day with a 20lb average is about average so only hitting 8 fish all week was soul destroying

My mate also fishes the St lawrence and he thinks even though it costs more its better than the Ebro at present. As you say the action on the St lawrence is a bit hectic....he has a good 30 most times and loads of 20's...

Common mis-conception that it costs more Deano, flights out are 200 quid and a week out there starts at 195 quid plus you only spend 30-50 Canadian dollars (10-20 quid) on 55lb maize as there's no need for hi-nu-val boilies! Me and my missus best trip did 224 fish in 2 weeks with my average at 20lb 6oz and my missus at 22lb 4oz with 18 x 30's and only fishing days. Big river fishing is the future, you should give it a go

Would love to Stewart, speaking to pete henwood about it the other day, but un(fortunately) our second nipper is due around august and our last one was 6 weeks prem so the Mrs has rightly vetoed it. Even postponed my september trip to thousand islands but the rivers' going nowhere so there's always next year

Nice one on entering the Specialist tourney, every team has a chance it just comes down to how long you can stand and spod you partnering with John again?

Dream Team ;-D Best of luck with that, would loved to have been there. Specialist are hammering the advertising in all the UK mags and Martin Ford is mentioning it at every given opportunity so I'd think the tourney would be well attended - very jealous!
