sounds like a sturgeon lake rather than a carp lake lol
going off what you have said it sounds a very snaggy water ? always seems odd that french venues operate lakes with lots of snags considering they dont know the anglers who are going to fish seems very dangerous for the safety of there fish hope your next trip is everything you would want mate good luck

There's alot of carp in there, they were just all stacked up near the island swims. One side of the lake seems to be very snaggy, where as the road side where we set up originally is fine.
I've fished it twice before and had decent results, and I will go back in the future, maybe not for a few years though. It's a French run lake, and he is reluctant to do any work on the lake where it needs it. The lake is beautiful, and the fish are hard fighting and usually in prestine condition. The banks are not the best, most slope down, and when it's wet or there's dew on the ground it can be a hairy experience getting to the rods in a rush. It could be such a top venue with some effort. The place we're off to in September (Oldfellah's place) seems to be a far better run venue, as is the norm with an English run fishery, with plenty of fish coming out even now. As Mutley has said it was a tough week.
I managed 17 fish in the week with about 10 lost, most if not all the lost fish being sturgeon, the reason for the losses being hook pulls due to the hit and hold tactics required near the snags on our bank. The sturgeon are also very good at throwing the hook when they clear the water - a sight to behold when the fish is obviously 50+! The sturgeon fought like absolute animals. I managed to land 12 sturgeon in the week including a 50, 2 forties and several 30s. The Dutch lads fishing the lake lost plenty of sturgeon as they just couldn't cope with the sheer animal strength of the beasties. One guy watched me land a 40+ then tried the same hit and hold tactics only to loose several fish to line breaks. I can cetainly vouch for the strength of 15lb GR60, NG 3 1/2s and my trusty North Wetserns. I managed 5 carp including a superb 37+ and 2 at just over 33lb, the others being a 27 and a 16. If Frank would only remove some of the snags and make the swims a bit safer it would be one of the best lakes in France. It has superb stocks of carp (and sturgeon) but it is just too snaggy for the fishes own good. There were at least 3 forties out in the week and absolutely loads of thirties. The main problem with the carp during the week was that they had moved up to the shallow end around the island prior to spawning, later in the month they will spread out across the lake. I would recommend the lake to anyone looking for some satisfying French fishing. The fish are not as big as some of those in the English run waters, but the sense of achievement in catching them is probably greater. I met some guys at the coast who had fished Lac De Passion. They had a similar problem with the fish being very tightly located (at the other end of the lake) 1 of them blanked, the other had 2 when they finally moved onto the fish after the guys there went home. |

There seams to be a pattern developing at the moment with all the catch reports coming in from France at present,
think the carp are still not out off there winter modes at the mo and are still grouping tightly together. I know this was the case at Cherpont 2 weeks ago and the lake waters temperature was still very cold, maybe in a couple off weeks things will start to kick off big time. It just looks as though all of us that have been out to the land off garlic have visited a couple off weeks to early!!! Still some very large carp been caught though eh boys ![]()

Fished an Angling Lines venue that had a few sturgeon in and also got a fair few screamers with nothing on. We put it down to possibly the fish getting under the line and it geting picked up on their dorsal fin
![]() Thought maybe the way that they fed because of their shape, long and low, and that their mouth is behind and below a "snout" could make this happen, rather than a carp up-ending and picking up bait, if that makes sense. A couple of the fish landed had what looked like grooves cut into the dorsal fin, which was what made this sound possible. Better luck next time Mutley ![]() |

Just to add a little insult, as if I needed it. I get a call on Friday saying my car is ready, and to collect it Monday. Great I thought, as myself and Wooly set off for a weekend trip. Which resulted in 3 fish to just over 17lb.
I just got a call now, saying the garage has been broken into, and mine is the only car they stole. I went down to the garage, and watched the CCTV of 3 little hoodies break into the yard, scope out my car, break into the building, get my keys and drive off. Hug a hoodie eh? ![]() |
