Default Big Fish Venues

Can anyone reccommend any big fish venues in France

Not so much any runs water but a venue that would be more of a challenge with the chance of a real biggie

Thanks In advance

Millstone Pool, which is part of "Mirror Pool Fisheries". Our party had 3 fish over 50lb in a week. However it has done up to 9 x 50's some weeks.

Symon who runs the place says he should have several 60's by next summer, which I fully believe as he has quite a few fish up near the 58 - 59 mark.

He has 2 commons also that go up to around 55lb.

Also on the mirror pool banner is Mirror Pool itself, that has carp to 75lb and and catfish over 70lb also. Wooly has fished all the mirror pool venues, he will most likely fill you in if you would like some more info.

Check out the link below, these are genuine quality fisheries. The site isn't 100% up to date, the fish weights for Millstone definitly aren't as we had 2 fish over the weight stated on the website.

If by big fish you mean fish over 40lb then I would say it has to be meadow lake or millstone pool run by Mirrorpool Fisheries. Both fulfill the first requirement - location. The fish are most definately there and in numbers which mean that several are usually caught around the lake during a week. On a lot of big fish waters in France a few very big fish are caught, not always every week and more often by only 1 or 2 people per week.
Our trip on Millstone this year produced 16 x 40s and 3 x 50s between 5 anglers. This I would add though was an above average catch. Some weeks the lake may only produce 20 odd fish in total. My catch of 7 x 40s and 2 x 50s will probably be the best haul I'll ever make in my lifetime, a real personal best.
I have fished meadow and millstone both twice and can honestly say they are probably the best waters I'll ever fish. Meadow is now producing fish to 60+, millstone probably will pass this mark next year. For even bigger fish target Mirror Pool itself. There are fish to 70+ in here, it does though have a reputation for being very tricky at times.
You are probably too late to book any of the lakes for next year. To have any chance ring Rob ASAP. If none available you can put a deposit down for 2009.

La Horre, fished it once a few years ago and is well worth a look. 300 acres, do a search on the internet, there is a local guy I think in Bury or Rochdale arranges tickets etc., isn't too expensive neither as it isn't too "commercial".

Are some fantastic fish in there.

Was that place once called Boulancourt?
If so, when my mates fished it some years ago it was mainly full of 20s, has it come on a lot since then?

Was Boulancourt when I went, really depended when you went following the drainage - think they call it Vidange - done every 3 yrs or so. Was run a bit differently then and think some of the biggies used to get take out and sold on.

Did you take a look at the lake right at the side Bear? Always seemed a pity no-one fishd it, may have changed ow as well.

Only went the once, have been to France since but this is probably the only venue I would fancy going back to. Was no amenities as such, had to drive a couple of miles to get a shower and a few miles to the village for food, think this puts a few off who just want to be fed and watered.

Did meet Patrice, only on arrival and departure. Was pretty much left to our own devices, two of us fished one of the double pontoons that was poss the longest walk. Swim next to us was empty so split up after a day or two. Was flat calm all over for a week in April, froze in the evening and very hot in the day. Wind got up on the last night and it was crazy, couldn't get the rods out quick enough but only had fish to 27lb. At that time you could use boats for baiting in the morning and evening, which I think has been stopped now.

Will get back there at some point.
