It is indeed the same fish yet again. Spawn bound yet again. I had this discussion with "captain slow", earlier. Whilst the concept of same fish, same lake, same peg, same spot, does become tedious after a while, you have to appreciate that this fish slips up very rarely, it just seems to do it around this time of year. its no coincidence that peg 19 always crops up. this fish either has a very specific patrol route, or a naturally safe haven. Considering the amount of anglers baits that the fish sees per year, it is still a great feat to capture it. Nowhere near the same amount of controversy surrounds Conningbrooks "Two-tone", but is that because its capture is less predictable? Either way, applaud the capture or not, its still a remarkably huge fish. The moral question of "deliberately" fishing for a spawn bound fish is a completely different argument.............Close season anyone?

Sorry guys i forgot the wink on the end.Around 99% of carp anglers are catching the same carp so why not a repeat monster catch. |

i know everyones views are different but in my mind i dont class this as a mega achievement
im a very average angler but i could possibly book on rainbow lakes on peg 19 where the fish invariably comes out , i could chat to the guys running it , put my baits where they tell me to and catch the same fish at a record weight of 90lb and call myself a world record holder . although i would be made up with catching the fish would it make me any better ? no it wouldnt because i would have listened to guys much better anglers than me and done exactly what THEY would have told me. i think we have to accept that catching that particular fish is nowhere near the achievement of catching a 30 or a 40 from some of the hard waters over here . ok ive got that off my chest now , tight lines lads ! |

I read a bit about fishing this lake a few weeks ago written by Tim Paisley. Didn't strike me as being an easy water to fish, if I remember correctly he blanked his week.
I know someone who fished it last year. 2 years waiting and planning after booking up. He managed 1 fish his mate blanked. It cost an absolute fortune by the time he had got there. He described it as an incredibly hard week. I suspect the guy who caught it probably worked hard and deserved it and invested a lot of money, time and effort. Well done to that man. The description spawn bound is probably incorrect, a more accurate description would be, the fish was carrying spawn prior to spawning in the next few weeks, a condition in fact exactly the same as all the carp that we are currently fishing for in the Uk, so it's not fair to hold that against him. Could some one explain to me why it being a repeat capture is a negative. I cannot remember the last time I caught a fish in England which was not a repeat capture. Certainly all my Top Pool fish last year had been caught by someone else before me 1 even still had a hook in it. If anything I find this makes it more of an achievement as I am quite sure carp do not enjoy the process and try to avoid it. |

There is a certain irony in the fact that I assume these mega-lumps are prone to be caught more often ( being less able to resist bait ) than other slower growing and hence smaller carp that swim with them i.e. the biggest get caught the more often...
Do smaller less well known (as such less targeted/noted/desirable) fish end up on the bank any more or less frequently than the ones everyone wants to bag by virtue of their weight/name/reputation... Are they just greedy 'troughers' or is their size/ rapid weight gain attributable to genetics. Like a form of giantism or a better/ more efficient assimilation of the food they digest. So with the question of skill, are the bigger fish any harder to bank than the mid-rangers on any given water or is it more to do with location? Not convinced I've put this across adequatley but do you get my drift.
