You must contact your insurance and tell them you are taking the car abroad it may cost you a bit more to bolt on european cover for driving in france unless you have a policy like mine which gives it you automatically but the insurance company still want to know when im going abroad where to and for how long as there is a limit to how much time can be spent on foreign roads per year without paying extra .
Always tell your insurance company make sure all the Ts are crossed etc asyou know what they are like should they ever have to pay out

If it was me personally i'd get a credit card, i know there a burden to some people but i tell you what for situations like going abroad they can save your ass in emergencys but thats my opinion
I would fill up in Dover to be on the safe side but then again there are a few 24hrs in France but its not worth taking the risk Oh and don't forget to drive on the right hand side of the road when your there

You need a bulb pack incase one of your lights goes off (the bobbies will pick you up if one goes off) you need green vests incase of an emergency (compulsory). You can pay at the tolls by credit card or euros. There are lots of 24 hour fuel stations open but have at least half a tank coming off the boat.Make sure your insurance co are aware of were your off too and get a break down insurance just incase (green flag).Personal insurance is around £10 from sainsburys.Your on a long drive there buddy a plane to that area of france is usually a cheaper option but you have to hire the gear.Good luck.

I'd echo what everyone else has said - breakdown cover, insurance, green card etc.
I've often driven to Limoges myself (Millstone Pool, Meadow Lake). Where are you landing in France? Are you confident with the route, or do you want any advice on route selection? |
