Very nice, and for a "big chuck" you want one of these.

really nice rod Jules.

All you have to do now is hook a fish from in a tree and jump down to land it!!

Been done a few times that one, just not with this rod yet.

Still say the toughest ones to land are big carp stalked from small boats when you are on your own (and yes, I did say stalked from a boat ). Done that a few times and boy, do you need to have to have your wits about you!!

Looks a lovely rod....whats the name of the but ???
I still use a Chapman 500 cane rod for stalking and a bit of float fishing on my lake. It is amazing to feel a rod bend right through to but when playing a fish.......I had forgotten just what a joy a cane rod is for playing.

It's called a Palace 8, the 8 no doubt because it's 8ft, but I don't know anymore than that at the moment. It was made by Forshaws of Liverpool.

Got my first real chance to grab a few hours stalking with the Palace today. Did a few hours on one water and took two lovely doubles, then called in at another water on the way home and banked a couple more!

All on worm over particle, inches from the bank.

Although I'd already caught on it, it was only a tiny one so the ones today gave it a good test. Behaved impeccably, and wasan absolute joy to use - well chuffed with it. The feel was excellent and it will be well up for landing some big fish - so roll on Capes this summer.

A couple from today;

The length of the handle has no bearing on the gear ratio, it can't change it. It will give more leverage (cranking power) but nothing else.
Looks tidy, though.

Quite right mate, just meant that it was the longer handled version with increased gearing - 'giving' prob not the best choice of word.

This season I intend (once again) to have a carp on one of my canes with my 1:1 ratio reel. It has NO handles
Sliced fingers may be the order of the day
