Thanks Lads....have managed to purchase a RW MK1V Avon (of the glas fibre variety) still looking for a decent split cane version.....Agutters do one (new) as a kit for £210 or fully built for £302.....wife and kids are saying I can have that as my xmas/birthday present......but on closer examination it is possible that these prices don't include VAT........actually not sure if this is really what I want......ideally I would like to actually hold one in my hands if I am going to spend that sort of money......if you see one that I can actually go and see please let me know.
Thanks.....MarkW

Have you actually seen one in the flesh?.....apparently the guy who builds them is an old bloke (70ish) and weekend before last he went into hospital for a hip replacement, have not been able to contact him yet....so at a bit of a standstill....he's not answered any emails (2 different address's) hope he's ok.....replacement hip at his age can't be pleasant.
Regards....MarkW

I have an older R.W mk IV, i also pondered on the idea of buying a brand new one from the same company but funds were a bit low. Haven't seen the rod in flesh from them but the i think all R.W mkIV are built the same as the original rods were so it will be an exquisite rod.

Problem is that the prices quoted on their web pages don't include VAT consequently I could be spending (actually the wife and kids) £350 for a new ready built rod......and at that price I could buy a very nice original.......and lets be fair I am not getting a MK1V because they are better that the rods produced nowadays (in carbon for £350 gets you a lot of rod)......it's all about the romantic ideal.....you know the scene...warm summer evening on a deserted lake stalking a 30 as the sun goes down....pushing your way through the undergrowth to reach the perfect spot and then watching the fish take your bait.....and the beautiful split cane rod taking on it's fighting curve.....the reality is that it's a summer evening on a lake that is mobbed out with carp hoodies intent on seeing who has the loudest alarm.....it's starting raining and as I push my way through the undergrowth I step in a pile of dog doo and slip down the bank spooking any fish in the area for 100yds.....I suppose it is about the joy of ownership more than anything and quite frankly I think I would prefer to have a good condition real 60-70 MK1V that has seen a lot of fish and carries the patina and care marks of 40 years of fishing......have managed to source and buy a 70's glass fibre MK1V which should arrive tomorrow and I am pairing that with a Mitchell 410 that I have (300 with faster retrieve) I still want the cane MK1V to go with the centrepin (Osumu Sheffield) which I have recently bought....so still not sure what to do.....really need to see one of these Agutters in the flesh.......anybody got one in the Manchester area that I could have a look at?
Regards.....MarkW
