Does any one no if there are any decent fish in the mersey? i live about 150 yrds from a 1/2 mile strech of it near flixton. it hasn't had any bank work done and has loads of overhanging trees snags etc. looks 'chubby' but don't know whats in there. any one fished it?

I've heared reports of reasonable catches of roach coming out of the stretch near to where the Carrington Spur crosses, near to the wier, don't see why there wouldn't be some good fish lower down. I take it you mean somewhere near the stables before the old brickworks?

Even further, i live in carrington. i went down there with the dog and spotted 5 cormerants. and there has always been a heron about.
don't whether to give it a bash, never fished a river before, don't know how to go about it.

East Didsbury is a good spot. Just downstream from the Stockport sewage farm at Parrs wood. In the summer there is lots of streamer weed, trotting maggot down the glides I have had Chub up to just under 5lb, nice Brown trout, Roach,Dace,Gudgeon and Grayling .......... but also some days millions of Minnow!

A bit further down between Wilmslow road and Kingsway, its very similar but last year less Roach and Dace for some reason, but more Chub around 2lb, My mate also had a 5lb 4oz Brownie and between us we have lost some unstopable fish ..... were they Barbel, I'm not sure. Its way way underfished round there, even though an Angling club have a stretch on the Cheadle side I have only seen two other people fishing it in the last four years !

I can't see why there are not good fish all along it now, just needs a few more anglers to show the potential.

Is that stretch near the road, because i dont think it fair on my hubby Ian if he has to come with me all the time, hes very patient but it isnt carp fishing,so if i can find a safe stretch i can go on my own.

My mate fished the Mersey last week before the rain. Very close to Wilmslow road bridge, Didsbury.

He had a similar catch earlier in the day but moved up to the bridge and had another go, the above is the result. He even kindly marked the 'kill zones'

Nothing big but good fun on light gear.

Haha
'very close to Wilslow road bridge'
Couldnt get any closer than under it

Always brings a smile to my face when i read catch reports from the home stretch of the river .As when i think back to how it was an open sewer when we were kids and now its all clean with fish in it .
Though i may no longer live anywhere near the place anymore that stretch of river from Wilmslow/Manchester road to Simon's bridge will always be our stretch of river and home

That stretch shown in the picture is free on the manchester side of the river however i believe Cheadle anglers have the Cheshire/Stockport side of the river from Manchester road down to where the Micker brook joins the mersey ( or as us natives of the area call the micker brook = Red rock

Hey,

Im a member of Flixton golf course which backs on to the mersey. I have heard that there is some really good chub all the way along the mersey especially where dead trees are in the water. Im going to try and finish work early tomorrow and head down for a few hours so will let you know if I get out.
