River Dane

Sorry if this has been covered before, but i've never really ventured into this section before!
Could anyone point me in the direction of any day ticket stretches of the Dane with the chance of chub and barbel. Not after any monsters. After 20 years of carp fishing, I'm getting the urge to get back on the rivers. Used to fish Cotton Hall Farm, which i am told is no longer day ticket, Croxton and Byley Bridge.( Don't know about the spellings!).
Should get PAAS ticket through next year, so only after a taster.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Downstream of Byley Bridge (both banks) is day ticket. The stretch runs all the way down to the next bridge. Tickets are £5 from Dave's in advance, or £10 on the bank.

Plenty of chub in there and a few barbel too (allegedly - I haven't caught one yet!).

A good stretch of the Dane, as you say lots of chub and big ones too. There is a reasonable head of barbel but they are very localised. Dane barbel like nothing better than cover and/or snags.

How big do you reckon the chub in that stretch go to then? I've not had any lumps out. My friend has had the biggest I know of at just over 4 and I've had a few around 3.5.

4lb, now Thats a big chub for the Dane IMO! I have heard of 5's from the Cotton stretch but never caught anything above 5lb myself. Perhaps the weir at Holmes Chapel may contain bigger but who knows? In terms of the overall stocks, I think they are quite a bit lower than 10 years ago but the average size is up. Seems the explosion of Grayling may have had a knock on effect?
Also bear in mind the bad pollution downstream of the Byley stretch, its more than likely the death of a lot of fish 3 years ago may have given the survivors a boost?

I'm fishin a club stretch just up from there and that produces the odd 4lb'er, plenty of Barbel 5 - 9lb and whopping big ghost carp as well so they're there mate.

All the river dane is free in congleton, at the moment its packed with chub and find youself a were and the barble will be in there somewere. Cracking day out.
