Thumbs up On the trail of Tinca's!

Did another quick overnighter on my new water on Saturday. It’s been quite good to me so far and I’ve only had one session without a carp, and now I’m starting to get the feel of the place I’m picking up a few on each session, which is nice.

However, what’s also nice is the size of some of the tench! I’m using light tactics and a lot of naturals so I’ve been picking up a good number on each session, and as I’m using my light rods they have been lots of fun to play as they absolutely fly when they take a bait!

As they are all a fair size, I’ve actually geared my set-up towards them as well as the carp, as I feel there might well be a few lumps amongst their number and on Saturday I had a few really nice ones after setting up a margin trap just a few feet from the bank by some pads. Just after dawn I had five off the same spot within an hour – it was mint!

I was fishing static with very light backleads as this seems to be the best way to pick up the carp, but you should have seen the tips knocking as the tench got amongst it - it was just a case of waiting for the knock that whipped round and kept on going!

They’ve all been in mint condition and there are a good number of golden tench amongst them too. Those on Saturday were topped by this one at 7lb 4oz, though all were over 5lb.

Can’t wait for me next session!

Well in mate

Nice looking tench that

And its nice to see someone that enjoys catching other species as well as the main targeted fish

And like you say its fun on light tackle
