Big Tench?

Would have to be the Top Pool for me. I’ve had them to just under double figures, either picked upon carp gear of fished for purposely using corn or worms – all stunningly beautiful fish as nobody really targets them. They average around 4lb with regular lumps to 6lb. Have had two over 9lb in the past.

Most productive areas I’ve found are in the bay or fishing into the channel to the right of the point swim pads.

Had 4 in a morning on Top Pool last year, all around 4 - 5lb. Have heard of a couple from Astbury, probably the ones stocked from Redes.

Used to fish the Top Pool for them in 1993ish when I was 11, they seemed massive then but were probably only 3lb! I would try the main lake along the pad line up from the Pads swim. Had a few on carp gear to over 8lb last year from there.

did a work party netting the top pool many moons ago, i was gob smacked by the quality and size of the tench that were netted.
when i fished the mainlake before the drain down it was common to catch alot of tench on boilies whilst carp fishing, dont know what its like now.
