They're not the biggest fish either, but it doesn't matter. Every time the float buries it could be something special, you just never know.
I tried near the flood gates a couple of times and gave it a really good go but results were rubbish

Also in the deep water near Simons bridge but that was only marginally better

The fish seem to be very localised and I'm guessing that due to lack of interest from Anglers in general, there will never be a serious stocking policy on the river. If it had been clean before the advent of carp puddles, It would have got the attention it deserves, I reckon.

Sadly 25 years ago, as Stig says, it ran yellow one day Orange the next but we still loved it. I remember Drynetter, behing the Galleon, catching a huge old battered Roach, getting on for 2lb over 25 years ago but I've still never seen one approaching that size, from the river since !!!!! Since it became cleaner And what happened to the Perch ? There were more in there when it stank of omonia and raw sewage and JB's used to be floating past ?

I don't know about Stig and D/netter but its been a big disappointment to me, when you consider the hours we spent down there as kids visualising huge Barbel, Roach and Chub

Maybe in another 25 years hey

I'll keep plugging away for all three of us then...

You'll all be sorry when I eventually manage to bag something of any significance... Watch this space, but don't hold your breath.

5lb 4oz Brown Trout my biggest fish out of there so far, but there's got to be some big chub knocking around somewhere, it's just locating them.

There's too much of the River that's untested as yet.

It could be then next trot down or the one after that or the one after that...

Big baits may be the way forward, but you'd have thought that by now the bigger ones may have made the trip to the bank at some point.

I had a couple of Chub over 4lb ..... about 5 years ago, nr the Gas marker but those have been the exceptions to every other trip I've had on there.

It needs more fish

Still never sussed out the first hour phenomenen either. All I can think is that you more a less catch all the fish in your area, you don't draw fish in no matter how you feed.

Again I think its cos the fish stocks are so low

While I'm having a moan lol What about the gudgeon, there were always loads of them but like the Perch they seem to be disappearing as well

What a great amenity the mighty Mersey could be, its crying out for some fish stocks and investment, but it seems local Angling clubs have no stomach to invest in the river ...... Perhaps they've spent all their money on ............ Carp

I noticed a few years ago Cheadle anglers have acquired the bank from the manchester road bridge down to the Micker brook on the Cheadle side of the river . I have walked that field numerous times in the last 4 years and have yet to see anyone fishing it .In all seriouness i have yet to meet someone that i don't know fishing that stretch . Ive seen 1 other person walking away with tackle & getting on a bus but that was in Heaton mersey and i recognised him as an ex parrswooder though i couldn't tell you his name .
It is up to the EA to stock the river but if no one is either fishing it or making enough noise about fishing it i dont suppose they will stock it

Not too sure about this bit... I've had some sessions where I've kept fish coming for 3 hours plus... But this is mainly after the swims have been fished a few times and they've got used to the bait going in.

It gets to be quite expensive though if you're the only angler on there. I've used up to 4 pints of maggots/casters in these time frames, plus maybe two of hemp. It doesn't sound a great deal but I think that's quite a lot of bait???

Introducing groundbait where red rock comes in worked well too, although this is going back a bit. I doubt anyone's fished it much down there for a long while. To expect the fish just to turn on to the bait is a bit much to be asked in my opinion. But in general I think you're right that it needs more people on the bank.

The lure of muddy puddles is just too much for some though. It's a lot more work to fish a river effectively than a stillwater. The results are nowhere near the same either. To catch 100lbs out of the River would be going some, on stillwater it's becoming commonplace.

It's down to the individual, I know where I'd rather be, but it's not everyones bag.
