Default chub outkast

got a chub outkast yesterday and was trying a few casts with just the rod

next minute- crack!

end of the first section cracked off just before the joint

there must have been a fault in it?

thats no good, they are generally tough rods tho outcasts..

As they are owned by Hardy and greys is it covered under the ULG (unlimited lifetime guarantee)

If it is they will ask you to cut it into 4inch pieces and send it to them with a cheque for £25.
Don't send the cheque wait for them to ask you for the money

They normally don't

I wouldn't recommend 'pretend' casting with any rod that isn't complete with a reel and line/lead on as I've seen it on more than one occasion where the tip section has come off the butt section and gone skyward before meeting its gravitational destiny.

Chub Outkasts are bang on for what you pay for them and usually very robust (we've all seen the 'destruction' test) so either you've got a faulty section or it may have been damaged in the post to you/the shop you bought it from.

Either way its not a common occurance so a bit unfair to go slagging the product for an isolated case, take it back to where you bought it (if new) and get them to sort you a replacement section...

Carbon faults generally are a clean snap,'twisted' or 'celery' fractures are a sign of damage by stress so could have been done in transit or storage.

Lots of things break that shouldn't lad, nothing to get upset about. Just be thankful you've got your unlimited warranty to fall back on,a lot of companies go to the trouble of inspecting the fracture before replacing sections and if they deem it 'customer misuse' instead of a carbon flaw they will not replace the section FOC....
