Default Casting...

Im after the opinion from you guys out there on what the best casting rod would be between a 3.5lb Greys Prodigy or 2.75 Century NG. I know the Prodigy is the heavier rod so therefore should get the greater distance but the NG is meant to be an all round rod, great caster and great player...

If anyone out there has tested both or just even everyones views on this topic would be appreciated..

Cheers...

I have to agree... thats what i have now and they are a great rod, but im struggling to cast distance with them... playing fish etc, there in a league of there own but casting over 110yrds is a nightmare.
Im fishing a water with an island around 120-130yrds and if you can cast to within a few feet its a fish a chuck. The only way i could reach is when the wind was behind me otherwise i was having about 15 attempts and if your not hitting the mark you know your not going to be confident and thats very frustrating...

Already got a set of 2.25lb Armalites for smaller waters so the NG's just feel to much of a middle rod and not a caster which is what im after..

good job knapper isnt here yet... he will be enforcing the 'turn to the dark side.......' and get a bait boat

in my opinion though have you thought it may be the terminal tackle not getting you that far? rather than the choice of rods? i know that with a 3oz lead i can nail 110yards, no lead core etc... a 35lb shock leader of maybe 7-8ft

(Look at me the big chuck boy)

and with a pva bag, aslong as its tightly packed and the corners folded etc... i can get 70-80 yards again with shockleader and this is off a 3lb TC prodigy beautiful action for distance casting with balanced rigs!

with a 4oz lead i should imagine 120yards with a hefty shockleader wouldnt really be a issue vary the length of the distance between lead and rod tip on your cast you might be surprised

i saw the ngs 2 3/4 struggling to put a lead 100yd but the prods are good for the distance thing but id personally go for the wychwood pandamoniums there absolute animals and are really nice under the tip.

Ive got the 3.5lb NG's i can get the distance with them but i personally think my reels help, but as a rod they are one of the best all rounders i think.

I am looking for a rod for big chucks and had a look for those wychwood pandemoniums, but couldn't find them anywhere. Does anyone know where to find them????

Not a distance chucker myself but a good friend cast 120yds reg. The issue is not just the rod but the reel, line and end tackle. Gen he uses 3lb tc with big pit reels, 30lb shock leader and 10/12lb line, 3 oz wt. There are a lot of rods out there suitable for the big chuck but be careful they tend not to fish well under the tip, any of the rods already quoted should do
