its all true, if you get a set, pick them up and inspect everyone carefully, my mates had a century butt ring, which f.s couldnt even explain you wont relaise the real seats are loose till after a few sessions. Buy at you peril, shame coz I like the blanks and the look of the rods, its just a lottery if you get a good finish.

They are all built to order so i guess it depends on the rod builders skill.

speak to someone who has a set and is happy with them and ask where they bought them. They are top rods.

ive just bought a set of tfg x-series in 2.75 as i wanted a lighter test curve for smaller waters this winter, (my main rods are infinity 3.5 tc) the TFG are touted as the same blank as the free spirit xs. Very nice rods very slim and full carbon weave finished with sics and fugi reel seat. They look identical to free spirit rods, rrp was £140 but they go for £65 each!! well worth a look.

Got a mate who has the hi-s 12ft 3.5's awesome I agree except for the reel seats moving within 3 months of buying them. When he rang F.S the excuse (which is a corker) was- its your reels, they are not ballanced, they are obviously too heavy. My mate said he uses tourny 5000's which are very light, they then said if they had know that then they would have secure the reel seats accordingly. I personaly think that possibly some of the best b.s Ive ever heard.
My other mate had some hi-s rods, again loose reel seats, and an odd butt ring (a century one) he later snapped a tip section, so rang them up and sent the full rod back, 8 weeks later he recieved it along with a reciept for £90 summit, the tip section was new but the varnish on the whipping on one of the eyes stopped short of the end which would allow water underneath and the varnish on the another whipping had been smacked so hard by something that some of the varnish had chipped off.
Naturaly I didnt buy the F.S 12ft 3.25 S's that I wanted, I saved a fortune and bought some tfg 12ft6" 3.25's and for up to 120yds they are awesome.
Free spirit, naahh

i owned a set of 12 ft xs's and loved them for playing fish on but they were never going be chucking machines they cost me a fortune in the end when i had to replace 2 tip sections after they went bang on the cast the 2 new tips came the finish was s**t so that was the final straw sold them on for a snip of what they cost me bit guttin really i think thre is better options available for the money they charge!

Just brought 3 x free spirit Xs ive's...

I have had them for one week and they have already all been replaced because the butt rings fell out no all the rods

250 miles in the motor back and forth from the mail order company, and its all sorted now..

If your buying make sure you, go and see them personally!

I was lucky i had them from a good tackle shop and there after sales service was spot on!
