I don't think that is always the case Tricky.

You can buy some lines of Free Spirit gear at a much reduced price under the TFG label (although you may have to suffer the indignity of having Matt Hayes' name on your rods ).

Free Spirit customers are a marketing man's dream.

I bought a set of 3 Hi - S 12ft 3lbs a few weeks ago that were 10 months old - guy lost his license for DD so I stepped in and offered to nick them, I mean buy them for a sensible price, from him: £400 for 3 - looks like they've never been used. I heard all the bad press about them, but these are absolutely spot on in my humble opinion. Can quite happily chuck out a 4oz lead 120yds or stick a float on and play in the margins with them.

Sold my X-Flites (18month old) and my Entoh's to fund these along with a new bivvy - chuffed to bits with them.

Jim

Thumbs up

Ive owned a set of hi s rods for a year now and cannot fault them. Three of my mates liked them so much they all became proud owners also. They are not the cheapest rods around but they cast like a dream and look the dogs danglers.Get on the full duplon handle!!!!

I keep reading that the TFG X-Series are the same blanks as Free-Spirit, but can anyone provide a definitive answer. I've also seen written the higher end TFG rods are also Free Spirit blanks. Does anyone know, or can anyone enlighten us as to where this started. I don't own either, but if the TFG rods are wht they are supposed to be, I might well do in the near future. I know Hotshot has some and loves em, spoken to him before. I also suspect that the Free Spirit blanks are imported for about a tenner each, from the far East, hence there is actually no reason why TFG couldn't flog em at a knock down price.
The thing that strikes me, If I was a director at Free Spirit, and TFG rods at £65 were being touted as the same s mine that I sold at £200 plus, I think I'd have somert to say if it wasn't true. It's been said for some time now; and the silence is deafening.
Can anyone provide the facts, go on you owe it to your fellow Anglers in these times hardship!!!!!!!

You are right Free Spirit rods are around £20 to make in the far east and it goes to show how an effective campaign with high profile anglers can get the tackle tarts to part with thier cash.

Some of the dealings with them on here by members leaves a lot to be desired as the high end rods should be guarenteed for 5 years at least. I know Mike Lambert is a big fan but ask him what he did to Mark Hutchys rod pulling the tip around at an acute angle.....It snapped (and it was his record rod) I dealt with Leslies Of Luton for years and I asked him why they don't sell them and his answer was "Cheap Blanks and vastly over priced"

Used the free spirit rods Mark Hutchinson uses at the stapeley casting day. Just on distance cast I honestly couldn't better my own rods. Just think how much it must cost for all the advertising in the Monthly publications plus the salary of several well known anglers and it is not surprising they are that sort of money.

Free Sprit are IMO Over priced and well over Hyped, the build quality and finish seems to be a bit Hit and Miss Depending on where you buy them from.

I have heard far more bad reports than good ones. And there are just too many people saying Far Eastern Blanks at 20 a pop for it to be just a rumour.

And as for them being punted as the best Rods ever! - Leave it out

Would not touch them with a Barge Pole or Landing Net Pole for that matter

Can't see them being exactly the same myself, the tfg rods don't look to be of the same build quality and look a "cheaper" rod though may well be just as good.

Some people wouldn't consider tfg and only want to use or be seen with free spirit, others that may think free spirit are over priced will go for tfg.
Clever marketing and sales strategy to catch both

No such confusion with Century or Harrison.
