Hi Mate,
The basic types and benefits are; Grey/Smoke: Excellent for bright sunny days, transmits all colours evenly. A good all-round lens. Grey will transmit all colours of the spectrum, and enhances colour relationships, so there is little distortion. Ideal for bright days and open water. Brown: Good all rounders. Can be used on bright days, but really ideal for overcast and cloudy conditions. Brown is a very high-contrast colour. It highlights visual acuity and aids contrast, especially when ambient light is lacking. It is a very popular choice for foreign sal****er applications. Yellow: Excellent for low light, and overcast conditions. Good for dawn and dusk, so ideal for fishing the evening rise. The lenses enhance available light. Chrome/Mirrored: No specific fishing advantages – more related to fashion. Most anglers tend to think they are a summer only item, so prefer those that look cool (mirrored, etc) wheras in reality, you should use them whenever you go fishing. Having had and tested many types, I now use brown lenses for all my fishing as they are the best all-rounders. There are loads on the market but I would not be swayed by brand – just ensure they have good Ultra Violet Protection. Go for UV400 which means they block 100% of UVA & UVB. For quality glasses at sensible prices check out: http://www.tacklebargains.co.uk/cgi-...Polarised.html Cheers... Julian

One other thing worth mentioning is to try and avoid those with really small frames - They look cool but you will get loads of peripheral glare from above and below the lens and from both sides of your head. For ultimate performance better to get a set with as bigger frame/lens as possible with wrap around design. Might not look as good but you will see the fish. Better to look uncool and catch, than to look cool and blank.

PS – having just had a rummage through my box of goodies, I’ve just found a load of brand new polarized glasses, all UV400 with brown or smoked plastic lenses, various designs. If anybody is interested just send me a PM for pics - Happy to let them go at £12.00 a pair which will include postage and packing. Only to forum members, mind.
Cheers…
