Default Hook choice for soft mouths?

What hook would you recommend?

Whats the thought process behind these then, or do you use them everywhere?

Its just a confidence thing with me. I use them in almost every situation i fish in except for the surface in which i use the esp big t's.

With fish that have got soft mouths i don't think its all down to the hook that you use. You have got to take into acount the way you play the fish into the net aswell.

Yeah but that aint so easy with a thirty (please) plus mirror going mental on the other end.

Seriously, I have my own thoughts on this ie wide gage, inturn point and inturned eye. Something like the Korda Hybrid wide gape or the Gamakatsu G point wide gape or a Drennan Specialist only this has an outturned eye.

Come on you SOT members, what you been using on Redes and Top Pool?

Need some extra confidence that Ive sussed this right as my rig tying days are fast approaching .

You could you use a wide gape style hook as they generally have better holding power once hooked but its easier to get the inital '*****' from the hook from a straight pointed hook.

I would use either korda wide gapes or trusty Big T's. Straight pointed but they are ace hooks. You could use a stiff rig with a stiff rigger - once it goes in it doesnt often come out.

hiya pal, my prefered hook pattern's long shank, Kamasan b745, korda longshank x, but on the top pool due to the rules, and the conditions
i'm on centurion 2000 snag hooks, with a bit o tweekin they spin ok and they're the daddy when it comes to strength,
only down side is they're a tad heavy in my opinion

hi i have just been in this situation on several waters and found that a wide gape hook is great and to get a better hook hold dont be scared of using a larger hook, gives a much better hook hold on that magic fish!

I was fishing a really silty water for the first time in a good while last week, started off with a Longshank set-up on one rod and a half withy set up with a wide gape size 8 on the other had my first take on the wide gape and managed to lose the Carp after playing it out of a couple of reed beds changed that over to my old faithful Longshank rig. Next take came on to the longshank rig, lost the fish soon after hooking I was wondering what the hell i was doing wrong, had thought of changing to a small hook, something like a bigT size 10, always found little hooks stay in well. Anyway before i had chance to change anything i had another take on the Longshank rig, after getting me in 2 reed beds and then going for a snag i manged to land this one and it was well hooked 20lb 10oz of mirror on the mat

I'm not sure if any of this helps but thought i'd share my recent experience of fishing in silt
