Default plastic baits

do you use plastic baits(fake corn, maize ect)?.if so whats your opinion on them?.i personally think that they should be banned.for instance if you were using 2 grains of fake corn and you were to crack off, loose your rig in a snag or a host of other ways you could end up loosing your rig.that rig will be sat there on the bottom or in a snag permanently fishing just waiting for mr carp to pick it up.now a carp could pick it up swim off with it trailing only then to rid it self of the rig.leaving it fishing again.surely this is not right.i know this can happen with boilies but they will take on water and start to brake down, there not permanent.have any clubs already banned these baits?.also i wonder just how many fish have suffered damage or worse because of this.i admit im as guilty as charged and have used these baits, but been thinking about this for long time now.was thinking of writing to some of the monthly magazines to seek there opinions.what do you think?

Where do you draw the line?? crack off with a boilie on and its fishing for 4-5 days. Tigernuts, 10 weeks maybe longer till it rots? etc etc.

I cant remember the last time i cracked off, good few years ago.

Fish as safe as you can, as long as the lead discharges the fish will get rid of a rig eventually.

I caught an upper double this year that had a rig with two bits of fake corn in its lip the fish was healthy and still feeding on my boilies. (true)

Good point, but would this also not apply to maize or good old "green giant"?
Have you ever noticed that the human body aslo cannot digest sweet corn properly, and our intestines are far more complex than a carp.
Where would you really draw the line as for bait bans.......corn of any discription, shelf life boilies (take forever to break down).
Carp have the ability to pass large quantities of undigested food of all sizes so a few grains of plastic corn should really be no problem.

Not directed at you Incognito, but I reckon any bans should be on those who are incapable of tying decent knots!

Lots of baits will sit around for a while, including a shelf life boilies, which could sit around for months!

I think the key is education. Like Ian, I can’t remember the last time I cracked off – learn how to tie decent set-ups and learn how to cast and there should be no worries.

no where your all coming from lads can not think of when i last cracked off, apart from my spod!.but you lads have probably been carp fishing for years.i`ve been carp fishing for 23 years, fishing for all species for 31 years.there are a lot of people who to put it mildly are clueless, instant carp anglers.was thinking of the heavily fished day ticket waters where you no that crack offs are happening rigs left hanging of islands, snags ect.appreciate what your all saying regarding other baits but the fact is plastic baits are there for good until a the hook perish`s.i no its a funny subject, how far do you go on what you can and can`t use.thats why we have these forums so every body has a say and we can sense the overall feeling.tight lines boys!.cheers, mike!

Ive got the answer to those who worry should they have a crack off while using plastic baits make your plastic baits from PVA .You wont catch anything but at least your plastc baits wont be hanging around the lake for ever ...LOL
