Default The big Chuck rod

Started fishing a new water for winter which requires a long cast from certain pegs. 120 yards aand more! I have Infinityx rods in 2.75 and the infinity reels and can hit the 100 yards mark maybe 110 with a following wind! but after that the rods dont seem up to it.

Will getting a pair of infinityx 3.5,s make the difference?? Or is there a better out and out distance rod??

Ian,
You have fished Shakerley??
I use 2 3/4 Century FS's and get can past the Island, from peg 1, using a 4oz tournement lead and 12lb line.
Reckon that must be 120+ and the rods still had a bit of power left!
Now after a 3lb tc so that I can up the casting weight to cut through the crosswind.
I use 2 3/4 most of the time as I can fish most distances and still feel the fish on the end!
Me personally, seeing as you have already got 2 3/4's , I would buy one 3lb tc and see how you like it and then get another one or maybe the 3 1/2 tc later.
Keith

I've got 2 Amorphous 2.75 rods that I can cast 120 yds with, have done 140 with braid mainline. Don't use them (have one set up as a marker) and you're welcome to have a try with these before you part with your cash

If they do the job and you like 'em, £65 each

Thanks for the input ill be doing some research, there is only one guy on the lake who can hit the spots and he is using 5oz leads. Not sure any 2.75 rods can handle them.

Peg 1 on shakerley, is that the toilet block side? That is a fair cast mate? 140-150 yards easy. The other side of the big island (the fish carving side) is about 100 yards and i can make that no probs with my current gear.

Would recommend the 3.5lb tc fss' got some in june, so far iv not angled with them lol however iv done alot of chucking with them. These will do that distance with plenty of room to spare, and still feel very forgiving

forget fmjs' you only need them if your fishing 160+ yds on a regular basis

160 metres is 174.978127 yards........

Think mt-ed means the side opposite the motorway. There's no way you'd reach the island from the motorway bank from that end peg with a 2 3/4lb TC rod, 12lb line and a 4oz lead....
