Question stop knots

hi lads i was wondering if someone could give me a bit of help on this matter.

ive read about the stop knots you can tie on your line but ive never used them.
anyhow what i wanted to know is ;
1 do they restrict your casting
2 do they slip up and down your line when they pass through the eyes of your rod
3 how reliable are they
the reason for asking is when casting out into open water im not totally confident im dropping in exactly the same spot or close to it
if the stop knots are effective i would be confident as i would have an exact point to line it up with .
i dont wanna clip up in open water because i did once and nearly lost a rod through it !
any thoughts ?

Default marking up

try using a bit of insulating tape russ...instead of a marker knot...just put it on the line where you want it, clip up on the cast at required distance and then take the line out of the clip.It does occasionally slip...but it works and doesnt really hamper casting...may do at extreme range though as i have only used it at short/medium range...

i use a small piece of size 4 pole elastic, just tie a simple overhand knot and the elastic locks into position, it stays put and is so very easy to remove when you've finished, just pull one of the short tags and its off

Hi Russ, I use stop knots for marking line, use a 4 turn grinner with any soft material to form your knot ( I use a day-glo marker braid from Fox), cut the tag ends close to the knot and away you go. Never had a problem with the knots restricting casts, slipping on the line etc.....

I used tape for many years but have been using Armaled marker elastic for a couple of seasons and cannot fault it,i find it best with a four turn grinner not,when you need to take it off just grab one of the tag ends and give it a pull,job done.
