Default reels, basia or infinity

next year i will hopefully be purchasing some new reels and i was dead set on getting the infinity xbr but then i saw the basia and i am caught between the two reels, does anybody have experience of using these and if so what are the advantges between the two, how easy to use is the quick drag system on the basia?

cant comment on basia but the infinity's are spot on i have 3 x 5500's not had any problems with them but to be honest its down to personel preference best to take your rod to your tackle shop and try both there both expensive so best to get it right

dont know about the infinities but i defo wouldnt spend that much money on the basias
ive spoke to a few about them and they all say the basias are completely overated for the money you pay for them, the spool capacity isnt great either and considering they are supposed to be a big casting reel i personally think its a daft design or a crafty business idea .
for a good reel and not too bad a price tag have you thought of the ultegras?

Its a design for casting not for carping. The basia that is.

And the infinity is the beautifull balanced tournies with aload of extra crap added onto make it a baitrunner. In the process making it silly heavy.

I would say get tournies but if you dont like them then go for the enthos or whatever there called, basically newer shinnier tournies. Hence why i went for the older ones. All this silver in reels is awful!

I got a pr of infinity's earlier this yr m8, and well with em. IMO the fact that Danny Fairbrass uses the basia in his DVD series (think it's on vol 296 to date) has increased their market appeal.

Ive got a pair of both Infinities and Basias - and the Basias will outcast the Infinities by 30 or 40 yards. I dont know where all this crap has come from about Basia Spools not being big enough comes from - there are 250 yards of 12lb Exceler on my Basia spools and I have never come close to emptying them - The vast majority of Carpers cant cast more than 150 yards with bait and when was the last time you had a carp run 100yards off your spool. The only time you will need capacities in excess of 250 yards is if you are Boating/ bait boating your baits out.

The Infinities are workhorses and great reels, the Basia is much more sophisticated. The QD spools are great and the drag excellent. The Price Gap between the two is narrowing all the time. you pays your money and takes your choice both are lovely pieces of kit. Its not fair to compare Ultegras with Infinities/Basias you should be comparing them to the technium which is a great reel for casting, but a painfully slow retrieve and no QD.

I cant understand all this undying love for Tournies either - Heavy and Wobble like Crazy on the retrieve, now they were totally over priced and over rated, I couldnt get rid of mine quick enough. The time has come to move on and embrace the new technology- Infinities are far better than Tournies and those bloody awful baitrunner front drag things which never worked properly, I do agree alot of reels now are a bit bling .
The market is definitely waiting for a premium reel that ticks all the boxes - something that none of the manufacturers have done yet - and remember the tornie and technium were both designed as surf casting reels !!

i can only respond about the basias from what ive been told
a m8 of mine was going to buy a couple of basias but after a lot of thought and a long discussion with the manager of a large tackle shop he decided against them.
i can even remember the said manager saying he personally thought they were too much money for the reel and wasnt overly impressed by them but like he also said to us hes a business man at the end of the day and that is why he stocks a few basias.
i do personally think there are reels that are just as good practically and for a lot less money!
