Default korda maggot klips

whats the best way of using these... just tying them onto the hair on your normal rig?

or is there some special rigs for them?

Whenever i use maggots i simply tie a size 24s or a 22s to a 1.1llb hair and put a bunch of maggots on the tiny hook works fine for me but you have to use a short hair.
This was not my idea i got it of some older guy who used to fish Grey mist mere back in the 80s (warrington water then prob still is) however he wasn't a carp angler he spent his summers in the pursuit of big tench and he caught loads and loads of carp as well. If he was using maggots on both roads he would fish 1 rod with dry maggots and the other with dampend maggots as dampend maggots float so naturally popped up and also hlped counter the weight of the hook. Give it a try hope it works for you ,the short hair is because with a long hair you may just hook the fish on the tiny hook if the hair is to long.

thats a good idea Stig

i've used korda maggot clips but find they aren't sharp enough and i end up bursting some of the maggots

i have always had my maggot clips attached to a short hair, although theres no reason why they can't be used with other rigs

The korda maggot clips are rubbish. The wire is to thick and the point is not sharp enough

Yes, i agree that they are not sharp enough. You end up full of maggot dribble

I personally tie a rig rin to the hair then thread maggots onto some light line of cotton and tie on. U se foam to critically ballance if required

The smaller ones are fine for threading maggots on, its just the larger ones that tend to burst them. You can fit quite alot on the smaller sized ones anyway so there shouldn't be much need for the other sizes.

When ive used them i just tie the ring on where the hair loop was before and it seems to work ok.

Smallest one you can buy would be the most ideal, with a few fake ones too to counter balance the weight of the hook and metal of the kilp.

The small ones are sharp enough and will hold 15 or so maggots. The point can be sharpened to a degree with one of the old skool hook sharpeners.

As for the rig, tie a small loop on your braid (or whatever) as if your about to make a knotless knot, and attatch the clip on the end of the loop ( lassoo it with a slip knot) then make the rest of the rig as normal.

Ive found keeping the hair short is essential to prevent the hookpoint either spearing the maggots or passing through the middle of the clip.

you could use a maggot clip on a D like you would usually use a rig ring for chod rigs so then the maggots can move about the shank of the hook

When using maggots on the hair i whip i size 16s or 18s hook to the hair and cram it full of maggots first used it for tench about 1987 but proved even better for carp then it did for the tincas

Default d ring!

nice idea stig but would this leave the fish getting hooked twice one from the smaller hook and the other from you unbaited hook? eh?

i would tie a D ring on instead of a hair tie hook on knotless as usual the just clip on the maggot clip!
