Been using meltex tape (the thin stuff) and its the bollarx as after a few minutes its completely invisible...and its only £3 a spool too!
On a serious note I think braid is overlooked now in favour of all these fancy coated hooklinks, but a mate of mine has done really well on a certain SOTAS water using super nova, nothing fancy just something now not as widely used. Rather than what you use as a hooklink I think the length/shortness will make a bigger difference,3 foot hooklengths are rarely seen getting chucked out but everyone seems to pin their hopes on the latest funky hooklink from Suffix/Kryston etc. and then whazz out the conformitary 7-12" link. If you want a really cheeky hooklink, get a look at the Terry Eustace Multi Ply, its an intertwined link using 5x4lb strands of flurocarbon which can be split down to 16/12/8lb. Really hard to see on the bottom and lets bait act naturally. Last edited by braidman; 04-08-2006 at 06:44 AM. |

I use sinkbraid from drennan. Simple, nothing fancy and very cheap compared to most braids.

It depends on the venue for me. If the water is cloudy then I wouldnt worry about the colour quite so much but if its gin clear I use a braid that blends in best in with the area that i'm fishing, I choose from Mantis,Mantis Gold or Black Silt.
Mantis for weedy patches,Mantis Gold for gravely or sandy patches and black silt for soft silty areas.I have confidence in all 3 types,by varying the braid I use I find I worry less about the possibility of my rig sticking out like a sore thumb on the bottom.
