for what its worth, i've had the mk2 porter for around 6 years and its excellent

The mule doesn't have side bars, but does have 2 rings on each side for the bungee's supplied. It does have a bar at the front to rest the holdall on. The base on the mule is a perforated plate and not just a frame though, so small items dont fall off and you don't need to use the bedchair as a base.
