I have a set of free spirit xs-ives (for lang range) and also a set of TFG x-series in 2.75. (for shorter range)
The blanks look quite similar and i suspect they may be built on the same mandrel but id say the tfg is a thinner carbon wall or lower grade carbons.
dont get me wrong the tfg is a lovely rod and for the money second to none.

The free spirit rods do not have "free spirits" name on them anywhere just "XS-ives" on the butt
Similarly the TFG does not have TFG on them anywhere just "X2" on the butt.

Id also add the E class free spirits weave is nothing like the free spirit s series or the tfg x series but it does look a cracking rod a friend of mine has a set and raves about them.

I hear where you are coming from pal and yes false economie it is just like you have stated. I know that the next time I buy rods (hopefully not for a long time) it will be from the free spirit camp as in my opinion they are the best money can buy that's in my opinion
