Default Rods & casting weights

I have a set of custom build trevs infinity x rods 2.75 TC and im just wondering what the optimum and maximum weights for casting would be?
Ive heard that i could use up to 4oz But i think this may be a bit too much
I have tried and use 3oz all the time and they handle that fine.....will 3.5oz be a bit too much?
The reason i am asking this is that i need to cast that little bit further than i am at the minute......i am casting a 3oz lead on 15lb shimano catana 110 cranks on my infinity reels which equals about 120yards.
Obviously i can go down in line diameter but there is a few snags...and i want to be sure of landing a fish if i hook one
Thanks Phil

my mate stew had a pair of these for years and are indestructable...... they will easy handle a bigger lead than 3 oz..... have a couple of sessions with 3.5s and see how they feel..... you will soon start to lose distance when you go past the optimum but my guess is that a 4 will be about on the limit. depends on your casting power and style too but a 4 should be fine.

You used to work it out as 1oz per lb. of test curve. Modern blanks are probably closer to 1.5 oz. per lb., but this can vary. Types of blank vary with wall thickess/diameter and action, and so do casting styles. My Intrigues are 13' 3.5lb which suggests they'll handle plenty, but in reality they cast 3-3.5 oz. further than a 4 oz. lead. Yet my old 2.5 lb. Mk. 1 Armalites would chuck 4.5 oz all day. Just step up 1/4 oz. at a time until you start losing distance,

Default infinity rods

the infinities will do 3.5 leads all day long when monging them but will also do 4 the 3.5 version handled 5 oz leads no problem in fact this was what f.w use to use on his around 10 years ago. The catana your using in 15lb breaks well over 20lb so you could drop down to 12lb no problem this still breaks about 16-17lb if memory serves correct. Check out the tackle box brochure for a accurate line strenght/diameter guide.
