Default best reel for distance casting

any input would be appreciated. im looking for your thoughts on the best casting reel, by that i mean distance casting. weight, line lay etc. plus your reviews on the reel you use for reaching those distances, over 130 yards. never mind the rod for now so please dont go dont that road, im concerned with reels for now.

Big pits mate. If your not looking at goin mad on the price then shimano and daiwa offer some good big pits for a resonable price. I like the bitomater xta's with the baitrunner spool

its a bit of a minefield mate as to get the big chuck everything needs to be in place 130 yards is easily achievable with most fairly decent set ups but to get 150yards + you then need the right reel for you ,the right rods, line, leads and weather conditions but the most important thing is the technique to do it this is probably the reason not many people have answered as there are to many factors and your asking for 1 part

Agree with Carp Junkie, almost any decent reel will get you the distance you are looking for with the right set up but does take some doing to hit it consistently.

I was casting 120 yds with Shimano 10,000 xte baitrunners when I needed to but getting really bad line twist. Picked up some longcasts 2nd hand and distance hasn't improved greatly, maybe the increased weight has offset the advantage of the bigger spool, but the line twist has all but gone away so do prefer them when fishing at range.

Have picked up some better casting rods recently and can cast pretty much the same distance with either reel at the moment, both 150 yds plus, though if fishing at this range regularly the longcasts are much better than the baitrunners.

Don't you lads fishing at this distance worry about your rigs tangling? What do you guys do to avoid this. Its just I have been fishing at a distance and a couple of times I've found my rig to be tangled at the top with the lead?
Saying that though maybe the fox rig sleaves could be of some help? But then I worry about the lead flying off? Using the safety clip system.
Oh what a tangled web we weave.

the set up i have is pretty decent to be honest already, and im reaching up to 120. i have diawa sportsmatics anyways, 3.5 tc harrisons. but my reels are getting a bit tired now, so i will be changing them. i will also be changing the rods, they will be made by anglers workshop, made to custom spec and designed for my use. i know they will be right for the job, i just wanted some ideas on what the best reel would be to match those. i would like to be reaching 150, that may mean changing casting techinique to achieve that, or at least honing the technique somewhat.

i think with what you have got if your struggling after 120 yards your new rods/reels may not make any difference it really sounds like you need to tweak your technique and as for reels to choose we can all say bla bla bla but i'm sure your aware most peoples top 5 or 6 reels will probably all be the same you just need to find whats right for you and the rods there going on
sorry if that sounds a cop out ! maybe best to ask your builder he should be able to direct you in the right direction to what is balanced right with the rods then you can tweak again to suit yourself

I use mono hooklinks most of the time, tied knotless knot at the hook and onto a ring swivel the other end, rarely tangles with any lead set up.

ive been playing with a couple of lead set ups this weekend on the lake im fishing. i changed one to a 4oz in line setup, and that tangled with a mono hook link. im not using lead clip rigs at all. im going to using a helicopter set up with a 4oz, but i have been using a running rig. (with no tangles i have to say) i cant believe nobody has mentioned braid yet, seeing as we are going off the subject of reels somewhat. well, another problem, no braid can be used, total ban. minimum 15 lb line as well, so your down to mono shockers, of which ive been using 25lb with the thinnest line i can find. changing line has helped put 20 yards on the cast easily. the right conditions i could get 130, i need 150.

erm, that would be nice, but thats a big no as well
salford: 10lb line, that would be nice as well, which will surely get more distance. i dont have the luxury of that, 15lb min, and thats a huge difference on thickness. so you can start to see the probs with getting the 150 now.

Draw the fish in to a more comfortable range achieveable with a 15lb line.

They are big goldfish at the end of the day, and they are eating for free. Make them come to you with the correct application of a good bait.
