best reel for distance casting

Clean your line regularly, use somthing like Kryston Grease Lightning and try lighter leads. Everyone goes for the big leads but not always the best way to go + a 3 1/2tc rod needs some compressing you maybe better with a lesser test curve. Have you tried casting off the floor?

Technique is everything though! You maybe better getting some casting lessons. Will work out cheaper than swapping gear all the time.

I have barely scratched the surface from my observations of Petty on the few times i have been down there this year
One thing you first notice is the quality and consistancy of the anglers baiting techniques, accuracy along with knowing when and how much to apply is second nature to the regulars. I soon realised that the most consistant guy on there this year and he is a good few fish ahead of everyone, doesnt fish to far out at all Timing and being totally persistant in getting on there seems to play a major role in getting a bite. There are a few very good anglers that know the lake like the back of their hand that visit this site, and they probably know of areas (not in the out of bounds) that the fish visit regulary during the course of the year.
The anglers have created the feeding areas way out into the distance, unwittingly they may keep the fish at range to allow those that can get out there consistantly the upper hand
There are also one or two that can cast and bait accurately at disatances that are way beyond belief.. if they get a feeding area created at those sort of ranges, you are spectating.

salford: 10lb line, that would be nice as well, which will surely get more distance. i dont have the luxury of that, 15lb min, and thats a huge difference on thickness. so you can start to see the probs with getting the 150 now.

Try the new korda line thats out mate. Its ment to be mega thin. Also worth going down to the beach and asking the big casters there

Yeah but Abu 6500 rockets would look daft on carp rods and you can't fold the handles up on them...

If your lake has a 15lb line minimum rule on it, like one of mine does, use 16lb pro clear, its .034 dia, very soft and casts like a dream, I can put baits 150yds+ in the right conditions using this line with a 4oz lead without a shock leader and not crack off. Rod- berkley b1 12ft8" xlr ,Reel is a technium 10000xt, when using heavy line, the line lay quality of these reels does add a few yds to you cast but you have to be hitting big distances already to notice the difference, you cant buy technique it comes with practice, a lesson with mark hutchinson is well worth doing if you seriously want/need to hit big distances.

I meant for technique mate not the gear. I learnt alot and can hit some distance from watching and asking them when i was younger.
