Default Scorpions

Alright Woody123

Quote:
Young make them, says that he made rods called Scorpions and that they were 12'6" and a burgundy blank.....they had a graphic of a scorpion
I bought a set of scorpions from Frank when had the shop in Alty. The rods although Burgundy in colour were on a grey blank and 12 footers (mine were anyway) Test curve of around 3 1/2lb
I've got a piccy below, not a very good of one of the Scorpions....

I still have them but they are now a lovely matt black with gloss black whippings

Woody,

If you took your car into a garage for an estimate on some repair work, then the garage went ahead with the repairs before confirming a price and you agreeing to it, then you're not obliged to pay for the work done as you haven't consented to it.

This scenario seems no different IMO. Old Wheeliebarrow has always been the same, had me over once on some gear purchased and I don't forget things like this...

If I were you I'd be going back and whilst in the shop ringing trading standards on your phone- explain the predicament and put him on the phone to them. Its his choice then to put the situation right or take him to the small claims court. If the shop is busy then it'll put all the more pressure on him to rectify it as others will be observing.

Bang out of order.

*Edit... Having just re read th goings on I think if you've told him to go ahead and refurb the rods after being quoted, you may not have a reason to argue the price so my first paragraph may be somewhat irrelevent.

But he still pulled a fast one on me eons ago so he's off the Xmas card list for sure....

Considering I know a few mates who have had their Amorphous rebuilt by Alan Young, with stainless fittings, new reel seats and rings rewhipped for around £60 a rod, I think £170 a rod is a little OTT.

The only item I have ever bought from there was a camo brolly overwrap in 1990, I had scoured virtually every tackle shop locally and he was the only shop with any overwraps in, remember when I collected it, he told me that Bernard LOFTHOUSE uses exactly the same one..

Remember the 'Big Water Specials' also Flier, 5 rings and could wang a lead for sure! standard issue up at Wyreside for a while also same blanks as the Kev Maddocks Exocet range for those who remember those.

if I did a calculation on the the aggro involved as opposed to the money....it works out that it is not worth it......I shall take my revenge by trashing his reputation on here at every opportunity and he will never see another penny off me......the lesson has been well learnt....he is most definately a con artist.....my lad has always hated him with a passion since he was noddy fishing when he was 13 or 14....never could work out why.....the boy is obviously a good judge of character......hope that Leatherbarrows dissapears into the mire with all the other supposed good tackle shops......I remember that a couple of years ago Colin was complaining that he never saw carp anglers in his shop anymore....and after all he had done for them (apparently he was something to do with Zipp Leads).......is it any wonder!!!!!!

Sloaney the reel seats definately look the same, how were they coloured? were they painted or something.......I take it that the blanks were not actually built with that colour....and you have some sort of graphic actually on the blank....take it that is a Scorpion?

Considering waiting till they are finished and then saying I don't like the way they have been done....keep the rods I'm not paying for them.......then go and buy 2 or 3 new rods......maybe

Never disputed that he is good at what he does....my dispute is what and how he charges for that work

That was 5 years ago mate,No doubting his skill as a rod builder, but over last few years he has lost the love as i have said in earlier post.I live 2 mins from his shop,he gets the odd person in for maggots and so on, and thats it!! I know some of the kids from my local water who dont go in any more, because he asks them to leave if their not serious about spending.

Woody,i feel for you in this situation, the guy is on his ar5e.So it looks like he's trying it on.He had a go at me a few years back for not using a local dealer, but if a shop doesnt stock quality carp gear you have to go elswhere, he told me the big companys wont deal with him,so that cant be my fault can it?pm for more.

Am I missing something here???? Did he start the work before you had agreed the price because if he did then he is at fault - Surely?

Took my Rods into him a while back we went through the build ie What I wanted done and what fittings I wanted and then we agreed a price - Job Done! And only then did he start the work.

Do you mean that you dropped your rods into him he said Ok I will have a look and give you a call with a price and then rang to say its 170 oh and by the way I have already started?

The original question lads.

I have had rods made by Colin and was very happy with the service and cost ect.
He may have up'd his prices and changed a little since then but I'd be happy to do it again.
I had no problem with him or his service
