In a word, nothing- they'll all catch you a carp.

What the crux is is....bearings. RE basic version for about what, fifty quids? Single handle, no spare spool, still a good bit of kit.

The new black thingummy one, metal spool, extra bearings, spare spool, double handle? Bit smoother, bit dearer, carps won't know.

Xteabcdefghijklmnop whatever, all singing dancing smooth as Jordans arrrrse allegedly, refined rear drag knnnnob, not much else but MORE bearings, carp still won't know.

Forget the spec, RE's will do the job. Use the £ saved on important stuff...bait bait bait blah blah blah (god this speech is so cliche now!)

At the end of the day...its a reel. Reels don't catch carp, they catch carp anglers. 8000 size reels were all the rage yonks ago (albeit in a 4500 gt style) and it never stopped the catch reports back then, don't let modern technology peer you.

Cardinal 55's anyone?

WRONG, WRONG, WRONG, WRONG

Clearly, the fancier your kit, the more people will stop to talk to you on the bank, the more adoration you will receive for your 'carping skills' and the more hints and tips you will receive from your adoring groupies. Shiny top of the range kit will open up so many doors that you'd be a fool for not taking notice*.

Mike.

I was going to post that, plus you get the spare spool.

A double handled Shimano baitrunner, with spare spool for £50. Excellent deal.

The 8000RE's are one of the best reels I've used, they're not going to cast to the horizon, but for medium and close range fishing they're more than adequate, can't fault them.
