Default whats more important

hello lads say you have got some coin for some new rods and reels would you spend the majority of the dough on a good rod and get some half decent reels, or would you go the other way around and get some pure reels and some nice rods in the chub outkast bracket? or neither and spend equal amounts on each piece to match it up?

I think I'd put the money in to the rods personally

If your after my opinion mate if I had some money I would probably get myself a set of 3-3.5lb rods maybe greys or diawa and some shimano ultegras or some Diawa infinity baitrunners. Both good sets of tools that will probably last a longtime and will be good for bigger waters

Sorry things to think about.
- Type of water;
-Distance of cast.
-Weight of cast.
-Usage of rod.
-Last but no means least. Cost .

thanks lads thats more like it. the money comment was in reply to some lad who has now deleted his reply.

i was thinking of going for a chub outkast with a shimano longcast reel but i didnt know wether to spend the larger some of money on the rod or reel.

i guess you lot reckon the rod? what about line lay on the reel i was thinking a 3lb rod is a 3lb rod but dearer reels have better line lay if you get me.

The things that DJ lists are important factors really mate.Oh and the longcasts are good reels and can cast a fair way coupled to the right rods and have good retreive but IMO are a little heavy.From what I remember of the reels I mentioned much more balanced when I have had a play about with them on a rod.Saying that theres plenty of happy LC users....lol..

From what you say then Joe you have a budget of 500 and will be wanting to do some big chucks occasionally. I'm a bit useless on prices mate as I dont bother looking cos I cant afford...lol....But I reckon 2 x Ultegras will be 200 not sure what the price of infinitys or LC's but its not much different leaving 300 for some rods.I am sure you can pick up some really good rods for 150 a piece but might have to go secondhand which is not too bad really as theres a lot of tackle tarts out there selling nearly new gear all the time at a snip(from what I read on here and am told, also got my x flites for 240 for 3 about 3yr ago they were 12 month old and hardly used).
Happy hunting

Just wait till the forum is busy you will get better advice than I can give...I havent renewed my reels in about 8yrs! Rods are about 4yrs old.Still catching fish though mate
