What I'm getting at Joe is that some people set their stall out knowing hey'll get a run, but with little chance of actually landing the thing on the other end, get my meaning?
Someone old and wise (and probably dead) once said ' tis better to have loved and lost than not to have loved at all'. Very moving and very soppy, but completely irrelevent to fishing. Hooking carp is one thing. Landing them is another. Would you rather hook ten and lose 8 or hook 2 and land 2? If the answer is the latter then you'reon the right track, if you are happy to prikk fish with little chance of landing them then one needs a reality check perhaps... damage limitation and all that...

![]() Carp are very clever to some degree, but extremely base on other levels, its the humans that make it difficult...

![]() ![]() ![]() Yeah, I suppose you're right, you go to all the trouble of disguising your end tackle, then fish with a bright pink flouro boilie popped up 3 inches off the bottom... Doesn't make a lot of sense does it? Gotta go to bed now, work in the morning ![]() ![]()

Being an owner of the Outkasts being mentioned in both 2.5lb and 3.5lb TC's I would comment as follows:-
For the price they are outstanding rods and the 2.5lb can cast well over 100 yards in the right hands (not mine yet as I need more practice). They are also very good to play fish on (PB of 41lb 6oz without any worries about lack of power or control). The 3.5lb are capable of huge casts but are rather stiff but I have landed a manic 30lb+ Sturgeon in snaggy conditions on them. Using a "mini" big pit (Shimano Ultegra 5500XTB) only added about 8-10 yards over my 8000GTE-B's on 15lb GR60 (0.4mm dia) and I was advised that a normal big pit may not add much more than that because of the 40mm first ring (50mm being better for big pits). With smaller, more flexible lines the difference gets smaller!! So even though I would recommend the Outkasts to anyone with up to £125 per rod to spend - for the particular scenario outlined i.e. highish test curve required, and with 500 notes to play with, I would go for the two of the new Shimano 10000GTE-C's as this would close the gap in casting difference even more compared to the 8000 vs. Pits and spend the rest on the best rods I could - Century, Harrison etc. as these tend to be slightly more forgiving in the higher test curves. I am sure one of the other monkeys may be able to provide better feedback on the difference with these rods than myself as I have only ever played a single fish on a friends Century NG 3.5lb (but a very nice rod).

good point about the big pits and small end eye deepend. definately one to think about that and thanks for the info on the outkasts. i am definately going to go for an outkast at that price i think. i aint no tart, i have been fishing for donkeys of years on old fox rangemasters, one of them having a broken handle and still they havent stopped me landing some big NW fish which tells me i dont need to spend shed loads of dough on some top spec rods although they would help on a long blank,,,
thanks too Deano and Oliver Reed and a couple of others for your continued replies aswell Ill be sure to try and help you lot in anyways that i think i can. knowing how to catch carp is one thing but knowing what to choose from this huge fishing tackle market is another thing, ill be needed you again i should imagine. joe

I don't think you would regret buying them but as to the best TC I have just found the following on Chub's website that indicates fishing at 150 yards is possible on the 3lb test curve models but the bloke is not exactly petite (but an 86lb is a bit of monster too!!)
IMHO they also don't look too bad on the bank either as they are very slim, minimalist with a matt ground finish. Chub Fishing.

Only comment on the reels is that I have found using 10,000 xt's regularly at 100yds plus and the line twists much more.
Although the big pit doesn't give me much more distance it does give much better line lay and is quicker on the retrieve. |
