Anyone Know Much About These?

Just bought one of these from Fleabay the other day - anyone know much about em?
Circa pre 1950's Mitchel reel I believe???

my mates got one very similar, i wanted to buy it off him but he wont let me top reels.. would go very nicely with a light cork handle rod

think it could possibly be a mitchell 325 similar to the 300`s

hi m8 if you take a look at jimsreelshop.co.uk you should find everything you need to know about your reel

looks like a mitchel 204 ,206 and i think if it is you may be a little out on your age of the real i would say if it is a 204,206 it would be around 1970's. If you take a close look at it it has a quick release spool and the plastic moulded handle looks quite modern too.

Looks like a Mitchell to me. A 206 was my first decent reel around 1983/4.I dont know if its an earlier model of the 206 but mine didnt have the same spool fitting and a different bail arm.

I would also say its not quite as old as you think.Good reels in their day Mitchells

EDIT just had a look around the net looks very similar to a Mitchell 308 made around 1960.

Think it's definitely of the Mitchell 300 ilk Lee. Used to be all the rage back in the day mate, they were my first proper carp reels and we used to fish them with the anti reverse off, i.e. 'churner stylee'. Not exactly ideal when all the line used to birds nest all over the place!!

I do believe that Steve Hurst still uses them too this very day, he is 'old school' after all!! I think he's still also using the old BJ bite alarms aswell.

Not really sure if they are of any value now Lee, but a piece of carp fishing history is what they are. Worth keeping hold of though, even if it's to look back on in years to come so you can appreciate just how good some of todays modern reels are.

Why the guessing game, it will have the model number on the side? 300. late model, 60's to early 70's. Depending on condition and with/without box and paperwork. £10-£25 tops. I have a boxfull of old Mitchells basically worth.......not a lot.
