This is an e-mail from Daiwa to JOEPHUS:

Dear Joe

SS3000 Limited Edition reel

In response to your enquiry regarding recent reports on the re-release of the SS3000 we are able to confirm that a limited edition version of the SS3000 reel will be launched around August/September 2008.

However as the final specification, price, and quantity are not finalised we are unable to expand upon this information.

Contrary to a news article in the December edition of Carpology magazine there is no facility to register advanced orders.

When released it will be announced in the angling press and on Daiwasports.co.uk - Home

The reel will be distributed through Daiwa stockists.

We wish to apologise for any inconvenience that this situation may have caused and thank you once again for your enquiry.

Regards

S McCaveny

PS. I've just checked, it's not mentioned on the website yet.

phoned daiwa the other week, first they have heard about it !!!!!
then called leslies, the rep reckons around £250 a pop with no discount given due to high demand for 1000 reels each have a little plaque and are numbered. Couldnt be sure if spare spools would be available.
look for a good 2nd hand set if i were you mate.

does any one know if the originals had brass gearing whereas the tournies were cast alloy ?

i believe so

so if they release a limited edition black tournie i doubt they'll be the same

the manufacturers are recognising the profit potential of pandering to the tart !!!!

i've owned both and still believe the ss's to be superior to the tournies

as stated above get some originals
