I tried fake dog bix last weekend, but without success. Although with these its easier to balance the bait so the hook is not visible - on top of the bait, I'm just not convinced. I hooked a couple of high teens, I reckon, but on both occasions after just a few seconds they came off.

I don't think its down to technique or rig, etc - the week before I had 5 or 6 of the top within a couple of hours, including a surface pb 16.5. I came to the conlcusion that maybe because the fake bait wouldn't necessarily budge during the fight, it possibly allows the carp to unhook itself easier. It least with the real deal mixer the bait will fall off presenting the entire shank for a better hook hold. Just a theory.

Still, I'll give the fakies another couple of chances before I draw any definitive conclusions!!

Have the carp you're targeting been caught on fake chum mixers before? I found the first summer i used them on a particular water i did really well on them, and then the next summer when i went back all confident with my fake mixers that the carp were really spooky of them and kept shying of them just before sucking them in, and i did better on a regular mixer fixed the hook on a pellet band!!

try an even larger shot than provided.........i think they are a bit too bouyant..............you can either force or glue a BB shot in which certainly lowers it in the water

I think that they are too bouyant and can give poor presentation if they move round the bend towards the point of the hook during a cast. Prefer to use real biscuits on a band.

Ive never had any problems with the plastic chum mixers. Like Phil said they can easily be changed if you think they are to bouyant.

I have never had this happen on me due to the plastic being able to grip the hook well. Only when ive had a few fish on the same mixer does the grip lessen which is then rectified by just hooking them again in another place.

Like in all surface situations i always look towards getting the carp feeding as confidently as possible before actually casting in. When you have got them feeding with confidence then i don't think is a difference between real and fake. Fish pulling out of taking your hookbait mixer at the last second is just something that happenes. Ive had this happen to me with both real and fake mixers and have not found a difference between the two.

I'll certainly check the bouyancy and adjust if necessary.

I've never heard or seen fake floaters being used on this water before, but in honesty I didn't notice any more/fewer spooks than when I've used real mixer. I think it may simply be a poor hook hold.

But hey, I've used them once... for a few hours!!! I'll enjoy every minute of trying them again and again, hooking carp again and again, maybe losing carp again and again, and maybe landing one or two!!! Because I love it!!!

Basically they're more resistant to "nuisance" species, you have no worries about them coming off on the cast, like some softer particles like sweetcorn can, some come scented but you can glug them in whatever you like, give them a try matey they're GRRREAT

I use thes fake floatin mixers, well actually just one that nige gave me to try but its amazing. increased hookin rate when fish actually takes it and dont have to chage every time cause its come off like bread. must admitt i aint never use the bands on real ones though. but i will keep with fake for now as its doin the job. it did catch me pb the other nite after all.

Was out today with both real and fake mixer, had a good go with both, as did Daggers, and I must say there wasn't much in it. They didn't seem to be bothered which they went for, but I'd say the fakies failed to hook the most. I think its probably down to the 'feel' of the bait which spooks the carp. After taking loads of soft, spongey freebies, they take a harder, rubbery fake which I guess rings alarms bells and they get rid before the hook has chance to hold!

Still, having said that, there was pretty much the same number caught off each. So I guess in conclusion, todays session proved inconclusive!!!
