Cool Boilies without flavour

Does anyone make their own baits and miss out adding flavour?, relying just on the bait itself?

Never heard of anyone doing it deliberately however i have caught on washed out baits that have been in the water a long long time when a fresh bait has been within spitting distance on the 2nd rod and the carp ignored the fresh baited rod all sesh and went for weakend washed out baits

The reason im asking is because pellets dont have a 'flavour', but catch quite well

If you are using a good quality fishmeal base mix it will have all the food signals and attraction you will need. I sometimes think that flavourings are often more aimed at attracting the angler than the carp..lol

Exactly my thoughts (only for fishmeals tho as they give off their own aroma)

I don't make my own baits very often these days, but when I do it's a birdfood mix.
I have often caught by not using a flavour, first time was by accident as I forgot to include it, the bait caught, so tried without flavours several times after.
All foods smell, but unfortunately not to me. My sense of smell comes and goes. Mainly it's gone.

ps what flavours are caddis grubs, water snails, maggots, worms, water snails, daphnia etc.?
Amino acid flavour?????

Check out the chemical composition on a packet of CD YELLOW birdfood, it has most of the goodness needed.

Work calls, Byeeee!

Just a thought... do you think that seasoned/pressured carp would associate a 'fresh' stinking bait as a threat, as it hasn't been in the water long and a washed out bait as somethat has possibly been there for a while threrefore less of a threat??

Thats the general thought process behind using washed out baits..

I've left a kilo of baits in a bucket of lake water in the past for a day or two, didn't make any difference to my results, I didn't really give it enough time though TBH, couldn't get my head round the idea of using the washed out boilies.

I’ve used boilies without flavour to good effect on many occasions. There are a few who suggest adding a nice flavour might be more to do with catching the angler than the fish?

I stand to be corrected, but I think Mike Willmott has said in the past that the B5 does not really need a ‘flavour’ as the base ingredients are enough to entice the carp on their own.

most base mixes have inbuilt attraction, giving off food signals, its if youve got the bottle to sit there with an unflavoured bait?.some ingredients are water soluble so thats an attractor in itself.i have used and tried this before and caught well!whether its to do with the bait having a washed out appearance i dont know, but it cant do any harm.i remember mike wilmott saying in his book, dont ruin a good food source by overflavouring your baits, little or no flavour is the way to go!

me and a mate a few years ago decided to make a boilie with no liquid attractors in it whatsoever.it contained a number of natural powders and mimmicked the carps natural food,to say it was a good bait was an understatement!i still use a very similar bolie to this day,and try to make my bolies as close to what a carp naturally eats.
