I believe a lot of the captures on these low/no flavour baits are in tandem with good angling watercraft and observation-in other words if you were to suss out the lakes residents' natural feeding larders and conspicuously offer a low flavour bait similar in flavour output (by output I sometimes think of bait as a radio giving out food signals in 'volume',sometimes a loud radio can be heard fom a distance and be appealing but at 60 dB in your face it can be repelling!) you may well have your low 'output' bait readily accepted, as it doesn't stand out proud from the surrounding low level output natural offerings in terms of strength. Whereas an in yer face pineapple pop up emitting tons of flavour may well win on a curiosity level and score,it might just as equally repel fish when they are within a certain vicinity of said hookbait...(its the whole coffee with 9 sugars similae again) Basically, sometimes it may benefit to have a bait emitting different strong signals on the lakebed in order to create a curiosity impulse and tempt fish from their regular feeding areas whereas another option is to perhaps 'slip in' to their natural feeding spots a low level subtle offering which because of the lack of high attraction may just be treated with less suspicion, after all the majority of hookbaits thrown out today all usually 'louder' in terms of attrtaction signals than their friends the free offerings, something I think they will pick up on. I've often used a PVA bag full of pellets and stuffed a couple of highly flavoured 'decoys' into the bag and used a rubber low/no flavour pellet on the hair hoping that the all too familiar PVA bag scenario will raise the fish's suspicions in regard to a strong smelling entity in a tight pile of food,I'm convinced they can 'do' a bag set up and select all but the strong smelling hookbait, play em at their own game and take the attention AWAY from the hookbait instead of drawing it TO IT and it may just trip them up....

In fact there is no such thing as an 'unflavoured' boilie as any base mix will,by its very nature, give off food signals or at least signals that may encourage a carp to pick it up. The real question is just how much flavour is needed ?? When you consider that the aquaculture industry produces carp food in the form of pellets that is both highly nutritious and obviously very attractive to carp without the need of all the extra's that are deemed desireable in many boilies. As said by earlier posters the attraction of things like sweetcorn, maggots, worms, etc is often far greater than any boilie irrespective of the 'appetite stimulants', amino's,special flavourings, etc. that boilies contain. Its a wonderful industry that can come out with fabulous new flavours each year... I am sure they are aimed more at the fickle angler than the carp they are trying to catch.
New boilie types and flavours are a marketing necessity rather than a fishing one. IMO....lol

![]() I was at a carp show many moons ago and Rod Hutchinson had a stand. This tool goes to the stand with a wad of cash in his hand, and proud as you like asks very loudly for everyone's benefit.."One bottle of each of your flavours please Rod" WTF... ![]() ![]()

![]() At times I can envisage your average bait buff having more syringes than a downtown brown addict what with all these 2 mils of this and three mils of that...brainwashing 90's style, just where NB left off you have Korda step in with the 'must have 4 types of rig tubing colour' hypnosis....priceless. Imagine if these anglers who buy into all this were taxi drivers...crikey it'd be the mother of journeys and hiked up fares what with all the going round the houses....

IMO....lol [/quote]Never a truer word spoken(or should that be wrote),correct me if im wrong, and im sure someone with more knowledge of the subject will, but arnt all these so called different flavours based on the same half dozen or so solvent bases, and it is in fact these solvents that cause a localised ph change that attracts the fish and not the actual "flavour" ,ie; strawberry and say tutti on a diacetin base both give out the same signals due to the solvent base
