Apart from not having to throw away the shells thus saving on waste, the transmission of sound in water is far greater than that of airbound sound.Tap on the floor of a swimming pool and ask a friend 25mtrs away how loud it was?

Fish when feeding on baits containing shell, hemp, nuts in fact anything that requires a good grind with their pharangeal teeth transmit this sound which,in turn attracts other carp, their underwater senses being far greater than that of our own(surprise surprise)

Regards,Dean
True about the sound transmission being greater in water, not too sure about the sound of a carp crunching a boilie attracting another carp...hhmmm...It might do but its hard to prove dont you think but I can see your reasoning behind it.I might try putting some eggshells into my next batch you never know...

So in essence you're saying you caught on the sole basis of having eggshell in the bait?Bit of a bold statement methinks,I think it can add to the % of attraction sound wise but hardly THE difference between blanking and catching if used in the bait or not.

Has anyone tried crunchy nut cornflakes in their nut mix boilies BTW?!

I had a brainstorm several years ago regarding this theory of sound, and fished single hookbaits in pva bags full of kids popping candy,oh you should hear that stuff go in a glass of water-and its sugar based so breaks down leaving a cloudy type of residue around the hookbait after 10 minutes.

Caught fekk all on it like, but it was winter and in less than favourable conditions. But I think the idea has potential.

I would personally rather use eggshell.

TIP - Put the shell in the microwave for 30 seconds before trying to crush it

Oliver mate,

I think he was just saying that a bait is improved by the eggshells addition and i would agree 100% with that

well said carp2bait im not saying that its the eggshell thats done all the catching, but it might have been a little edge that maybe put the extra fish on the bank. it definatley helped in rolling my bait.
it might be worth giving it a go !!
