Been a while since ive poseted on here but i think i can be of some help.???

I have fished a water for a couple of years which is 15ft + in the margins and 45+ in the middle and i had the same thoughts as you when i first started on there and to be honest i ignored my mates thoughts on it with regards to pop ups working at depths 20ft + to start with.

An article somwhere by Simon Crowe? on an underwater piece showed the effects of pressure on a bolies at depth and showed the presentation at 20ft+-basically it was a bottom bait!!!

I have to agree and i have used sliding zig rigs with a sub surface drennan pike float and never had a take!!! The place i fish to my knowledge has never produced a fish at any depths you are talking about, its like fishing a the rim of a saucer , the margins are fine but the fish dont seem to go beyond that to feed - def in the upper layers but not on the bottom- why would they there is none or little light and as such very little food. I have looked at the French big waters of 65ft + and have heard of fish being caught at these depths but over here im not so sure- really thought there was a chance but not so much as a linner on my deep rod in 3 years so make your mind up from there!!

Fish the margins, right under the tips and dont worry bout it poppin up as it will !!!!

In my experinence on a deep water there will be other worries and concerns that will crop up in order for you to catch consistantly other than the boyancy of your pop ups!! You are in for a real challenge but one once you have cracked it will just like big waters when fished for the first time stand you in good stead and not seem so daunting afterwards!!!-

Biggest tip i can give is dont fish until May as takes so long to warm up!! - spend your time prebaiting etc and save yourself the hastle!!!!!-of this i can be 100% sure!!!

God i cant believe i have taken the time to reply- im such a miserable git but i can empethise with your problem!!! Hope it makes sense???????

All the best!!!

nice one peeps i was initially of the mind that they would take on some h20 but this is something i plan to experiment with any way as i still think the bait would still weigh less than a standard bottom bait.
surely it`s gonna be something i can play around with perhaps will also try the everlasting fake baits as well...

was also wondering if the depth would alter the leak off and break down times of baits?
